Donald Dahl obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Donald E. Dahl, 90, of Spring Valley, Minn., died on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Mayo Clinic- Methodist Campus in Rochester, Minn.

Donald Edward Dahl was born October 20, 1932, to George and Thora (Engerud) Dahl in Beaver Township, Fillmore County, Minn. He was baptized and confirmed at Bloomfield Lutheran Church. When he was a child, he met Pastor Neil Christopherson at Bible school and the two continued a lifelong friendship. Donald attended country school and Spring Valley High School. On June 29, 1956, he was united in marriage to Alice Eastwold at Chester Lutheran Church in Chester, Iowa, and to this union, three children were born: Edward, David and Carolyn. Donald spent his life farming in Beaver Township where he was born. Blessed with a wonderful singing voice, Donald enjoyed singing with family, in church choirs and sang for many, many weddings and funerals.

Donald is survived by his loving wife Alice Dahl of Spring Valley, children Edward (Susan) Dahl of Spring Valley, David Dahl of Tomah, Wis., and Carolyn (Jeff) Freese of Lanesboro, Minn.; 10 grandchildren: Delia (Logan) O’Connell, Daniel Dahl, Margaret, Elizabeth and Dorothy Dahl, Yvonne, Sarah, Isaac, Christopher and Alison Freese; and sister Lorraine Kraling of Rochester, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin sister Donna, infant sister Laura, sisters Elaine Maurer, Darlene Donovan and grandchild Penuel Dahl.

Funeral services for Donald will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 10, 2023, at First English Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, with Pastor Loel Wessel officiating. Burial will follow at Bloomfield Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Friday morning at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First English Lutheran Church or the Bloomfield Cemetery.
