Donald Cooper obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Donald (Don) N. Cooper, age 91, of Spring Valley, Minn., passed away on January 18, 2026, after a long illness.

Don was born June 8, 1934, in Racine, Minn., to Myron and Winona (Chamberlain) Cooper.  Don graduated from Stewartville High School in 1953.  He served in the United States Army, where he worked as a top secret courier and as a chauffeur for generals out of the Pentagon.  He had the privilege of chauffeuring Charles Lindberg. Don was discharged on November 30, 1955, with the rank of Sergeant.  After the service, Don farmed his entire life in the Spring Valley area and he was also a sales rep for Murphy Feed Co. for three years.  On March 25, 1961, he married Dawn Weisinger in Rochester, Minn.  They were married for 65 years and had four children: Brad, Jana, Ross and Amy.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dawn Cooper; their four children: Brad (Beverly) Cooper of Mississippi, Jana (Terry) Meskill of Spring Valley, Minn., Ross (Maribeth) Cooper of Spring Valley, Minn., and Amy (Shaun) Gustafson of Lake City, Minn.; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister Betty Dubbels of Spokane, Wash., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ellen, and three brothers: Robert, Wesley and Lynn.

Memorials are preferred to the Hamilton Cemetery.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the High Point Church in Rochester, Minn., with Amy and Shaun Gustafson officiating.  Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the start of the service.  Burial will be at Hamilton Cemetery in Racine.
