Dennis Voeltz obituary, Fillmore county Journal

Dennis Eugene Voeltz, 68, of Lanesboro, Minn., passed away Friday, May 13, 2022 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn., after a very brief battle with cancer.

Dennis was born on May 9, 1954, in Spring Valley, Minn., to Maynard and Frances (Krahn)

Voeltz. He grew up in Spring Valley and attended Spring Valley High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, proudly serving his country from 1972 to 1974.

On September 20, 1975, he was united in marriage with his life partner, Deb Sherman. Dennis and Deb spent most of their married life in Lanesboro, where they were blessed with three children: Shawn, Corey, and Zach. Dennis spent his early years working for Reese Logging and driving bus for the Lanesboro School District. He enjoyed a career in trucking with Lawrence Trucking out of Rochester, Minn., until his retirement. Post retirement, Dennis enjoyed getting some behind-the-wheel time working for his nephew Jason Voeltz. An added bonus was being able to work with his brother, Dave.

Dennis will be well remembered as a selfless man giving his time to his friends and family whenever they were in need. His love for the military, especially the Marine Corps, was something that filled his days. He spent countless hours creating personalized memorabilia to help others honor their loved ones. No task was too big! Just like his heart!

Dennis is survived by his life partner Deb, children Shawn (Rebecca Tabor) of Chatfield, Corey Voeltz (David Allred) of Elgin, Ill., and Zach of Lanesboro; grandchildren Chantelle, Noriah, Nolynn, Kiarah, Shailah, and Ashley; great-grandchildren Justin and Gianna, brothers Bob (Renata) of Spring Valley, David (Christine) of Chatfield; sisters Patricia of Wykoff and Sheila of Clarks Grove, and brother-in-law Larry Freyberger, along with many nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Voeltz, sister Barbara Freyberger, and his favorite four-legged companion, Spike.

A full military honor’s service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2022, at the Minnesota State’s Veteran Cemetery in Preston, Minn. Please be present by 10:45 a.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at Dennis and Deb’s residence in Lanesboro.
