David Elwin Horsman, 78, of Spring Valley, Minn., peacefully passed away April 14, 2024. Despite the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease, David’s spirit remained resilient. Through the dedication of his wife and loved ones, David was able to remain at home through his final days, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family.
David was born on March 27, 1946, to Catherine (Kinslow) and Elwin Horsman in Spring Valley, where he embraced the values of hard work and a love for the outdoors. David attended Spring Valley High School where he met the love of his life, Elaine (Link) Horsman. Their bond was one of deep affection, spanning an incredible 64 years. Together they ran Elaine’s Café in Spring Valley for over 44 years.
David was a man of many talents working in various trades including construction, sales and eventually retiring from Warren Trucking as a truck driver. David was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman who spent many years raising several different types of animals including dogs, foxes and mink. He also enjoyed his trips to the casino.
David is survived by his wife Elaine Horsman, daughters Pamela (Tom) Abbott, Teresa (Frank) House, and son David Horsman Jr. all of Spring Valley, Minn.; grandchildren Jason Horsman (Tammy) of Owatonna Minn., Justin Horsman (Silke), Tiffany House (Brandon), Jared Hagstrom, and Tabitha House (Jessy), all of Spring Valley; great-grandchildren Owen Lecy, Brysen Horsman, Elora Strain, Lillian Horsman, Jaelee Hagstrom, Thomas Hagstrom, Jennah Hagstrom, and Joshua Mulhern; and sisters Marsha Thorson and Debbie Carr of Spring Valley.
He was preceded by his parents Elwin Horsman and Catherine Bundy, sister Bonnie Kiehne, and his baby brother.
David’s family would like to express their extreme gratitude to Mayo Hospice for the wonderful care both he and Elaine received.
Funeral services for David will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, with Pastor Jolene Knudson-Hanse officiating. Burial will take place at Spring Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
