David Garrison, age 79, of Spring Valley, Minnesota, died Friday, October 2, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Methodist Campus.
He was born February 4, 1947, in Galesburg, Illinois, to Carroll and Evelyn (Henson) Garrison. David attended and graduated from New Berlin, Illinois, in 1965, and attended the University of Illinois. In 1968 he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served in the U.S. Navel Forces Advisory Group, serving in Vietnam for two years. He was discharged in 1970. On April 17, 1971, David was united in marriage to Luann Brusse at the Cherry Grove Methodist Church and to this union two sons were born, Todd and Eric. After their marriage they lived in Rochester, Minnesota, where they operated a photography studio for several years before moving to Illinois. There David and Luann manufactured and sold farm toy tractors. David also worked for the United States Postal service in Illinois for over 20 years. Through the years he was an active member of the Hanson-Raabe VFW Post and the Everett H. Hale American Legion in Spring Valley and truly enjoyed attending his granddaughter’s sporting events and was recently blessed with the opportunity of meeting his great-grandson Jackson.
David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Luann Garrison of Spring Valley, two sons, Todd and Michelle Garrison of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Eric of Seattle, Washington; two granddaughters, Katy and Molly (Justin); great-grandson Jackson, and a sister, Ann Shewmake of Joplin, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Loma McConnell.
Memorials are preferred to the Cherry Grove Cemetery, The High Forrest Community Church or to the donor’s choice.
