David Ardell Schwier

David Ardell Schwier, of Fountain, Minn., passed into new life June 29, 2020, at his winter home in Tombstone, Ariz., with his loving wife Jessica by his side. He was 82 years young. He was born November 8, 1937, at home in Fillmore Township, Minn., to Raymond and Aleda (Bothun) Schwier. He attended country school and St. John’s Lutheran School, then graduated from Wykoff High School in 1955. He married high school classmate Carol Murray in 1958. They raised their family in Wykoff and later on the farm. She passed away in 1993. David was employed for many years by Waters Instruments of Rochester. When his parents retired in 1978, he came back to work the farm he grew up on and dearly loved. In 1997 David married Jessica Holtum. They were best friends as well as soul mates in marriage. Over the years David served his community as a founding board member of the Wykoff Area Historical Society and as a Wykoff School Board member. He was both a member of Fountain Lutheran Church in Fountain, Minn., and historic St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Tombstone, Ariz. David was a man of strong faith and always took the time to stop and listen to anyone who approached him to talk.

He had a welcoming presence which attracted conversation and confidences from even perfect strangers. And he truly believed that if you are generous in giving without expectations, you will be blessed and receive back much more. He supported many local charities, organizations and businesses in both communities he resided in. David enjoyed traveling and camping in their RV and was an active lifetime member of the Good Sam camping club. He loved all kinds of music but especially his beloved “Texas Swing”! He enjoyed hiking, fishing, feeding and watching birds, exploring ghost towns and walking cemeteries. He will be missed dearly by family and friends.

David is survived by his wife Jessica Holtum-Schwier; daughters Theresa (Tim) Zwart, Pamela (Leroy) Eickhoff, and Christine Thompson; grandchildren Tony (Jessica) Zwart, Tiffany Asher (Brad Kohn), Tatiana Zwart (Logan Adler), Rachel (Lee) Miller and Carly Thompson; great-grandchildren Cameron Asher, Bryson Zwart, Braeden Zwart, and Stella Adler; stepson Christopher (Jenniffer) Stoltz and step grandchildren Saideh Stoltz and Carson Stoltz. Also surviving are sisters Darlene Boyken and Donna (Merlin) Hare, brother-in-law Andrew (Tamera) Holtum and cousin/ward Elaine Turner as well as other cousins, nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Carol, his son Brian, and brother-in-law Larry Boyken.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Thursday, August 27 at 1 p.m. at Fountain Lutheran Church, which will be for family only. There will be a drive-by visitation for everyone at the church from 12-1 p.m. prior to the service. Vehicles should enter from Highway 52 heading south onto Main Street in Fountain. The burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church cemetery in Wykoff immediately after the service. Friends are invited to attend the inurnment. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, face masks and social distancing will be required.
