Cross Country: Crazy Buffalo Run Features Wins by #1 LARPH Boys, #6 LFC Girls
LARPH’s boys fended off Section 1A rival Cotter and LFC’s girls grabbed their first team title of the year as cross country squads took on the 4,000-meter La Crescent/Hokah Crazy Buffalo Meet. In a matchup of the state’s top two ranked Class A teams, and last year’s two 1A state representatives, Matt Kingsbury’s #1 LARPH guys beat the #2 Ramblers by a narrow three points, 32 to 35 (of seven full teams). The Ramblers had the top two runners, #1 in Class A individually Erik Semling (12:46) and #2 Ryan Littlefield (13:13), but team Card-Tro-Cane then got its entire scoring lineup across the line with only one more Rambler doing so. Isaac Rasmuseen (13:30) and Grayson Speltz (13:38) took third and fourth, Hunter Rislov (13:50) sixth, Will Jewison (14:02) eighth, and Brennan Kunst (14:10) eleventh. Kellen Groth (13:56) took seventh to give Cotter three in the top 10. Their fourth and fifth scoring runners took 12th and 13th place. Damien Gossen (14:44), who did not score for the team, took 15th place for LARPH. Eleven of the top 15 runners in the race were Ramblers or Card-Tro-Canes. LARPH even competed without key runner Aaron Ploetz. LFC also ran with Riley Grant (15:11) taking 19th place (of 59 total runners). The race continued the LARPH versus Cotter rivalry, as the teams battled back-and-forth to end last year. On the girls side, Lanesboro/Fillmore Central (50) grabbed the team title over Cotter (70) and D-E (76) with LARPH (107) taking fourth and Kingsland (135) sixth (of seven complete teams). Lake City’s Olivia Yotter (15:27) topped Burro Autumn Rakosnik (15:49) and Cotter/HL’s Emma Hatanpa (16:03) for the individual top honors. LARPH’s Caitlyn Bauer (16:06) took fifth, LFC’s Lillyan Kiehne (17:32) 11th, and Kingsland’s Reeyin Lanning (17:40) 12th. LFC’s other three scoring runners each finished top 20, as Charity Kingsley (17:55) took 15th, Grace Kingsley (17:56) 16th, and Eliza Cullen (18:18) 18th place. Knight Kaylie Betts (20th place > 18:55) also cracked the top 20 (of 57 runners). It was a notable win for LFC, which took third at sections last with the Ramblers winning the 1A title. Cotter graduated the Section 1A champ, Sonja Semling, as well as a second top 20 runner from the event (while the Burros lost none of their top runners). LFC (#6) and Rochester-Lourdes (#9) are the two ranked 1A girls cross-country teams.
