October 7, 2024 by Paul Trende

Lillyan Kiehne (2225) and Eliza Cullen (2224), sisters Charity and Grace Kingsley, were the middle finishing foursome of LFC’s key runners, Autumn Rakosnik won the individual title, and Olivia Rindels was the sixth score tiebreaker as the Burros claimed the team crown at the St. Charles meet. A testament to how strong LARPH’s boys cross country is, Hunter Rislov and Will Jewison trek the last few meters to finish 16th and 18th respectively at the St. Charles Meet. Neither scored for the Card-Tro-Cane team, which placed five in the top 10 to easily grab the overall team title. Photo by Christine Vreeman

Journal-covered cross country teams LARPH, LFC, Chatfield, GMLOS and Kingsland all took part in the St. Charles cross country meet. The host Saints, Stewartville, Dover-Eyota, La Crescent/Hokah and PEM also competed. The boys side had nine full teams and the girls side 10.  LARPH’s boys (27) won their second meet of four competed by easily topping nearest foes Stewartville (66) and St. Charles (95). Chatfield (148) took fifth, LFC (175) eighth, and GMLOS (190) ninth. The #4-ranked Card-Tro-Canes were led by the individual race champion, recording his first ever varsity win, Isaac Rasmussen (17:15.3). He topped nearest foes Ivan Daood (17:20.4) of St. Charles and Josh Langseth (17:28.4) of Stewie.  But Rasmussen was one of five LARPH guys in the top 10 (with Wyatt Kreidermacher not competing). Brennan Kunst (17:36.2) and Aaron Ploetz (17:42.2) took fourth and fifth. Trey Hegland (17:48.1) and Grayson Speltz (18:17.5) took eighth and ninth. Additionally, non-scoring LARPH runners Hunter Rislov (18:46.1) and Will Jewison (18:51.6) took 16th and 18th places respectively.  Only one other Journal-covered male runner also made the top 20, LFC’s Riley Grant (18:43.7) in 15th place. Chatfield’s top finishers were Aiden Johnsrud (19:07.4) and Ben Peeters (19:09.2) in 25th and 26th places. GMLOS’ Carter Glynn (19:20.9) and Teague Alden (19:24.3) took 27th and 28th, followed by LFC’s Andy Brown (19:27.4) in 29th place. Sixty-four guys competed at the 5,000-meter race around St. Charles golf course. Winning their third team title of the year were LFC’s #8-ranked girls (52), who tied with Stewartville (52) but won the meet on highest sixth-runner-finish criteria. Chatfield (126) took fourth behind LC/H (117). GMLOS (138) took fifth, LARPH (163) eighth, and Kingsland (226) tenth. The Burros were naturally led by state-ranked freshman Autumn Rakosnik (20:03), who blazed a trail in winning her third meet of the year. She topped nearest foes Hope Docan-Morgan (20.49.5) of La Crescent/Hokah and Lexi Kivimagi (21:14.9) of Chatfield by 45-plus seconds each.  Kivimagi racked up her sixth top six finish. LFC’s five scoring runners all made the top 16. Lillyan Kiehne (22:14.3) took 8th to make the top 10. Charity Kingsley (22:47.9), Grace Kingsley (23:03.5), and Eliza Cullen (23.33.1) took 13th, 14th, and 16th places.  Olivia Rindels (23:58) took 23rd. Said finish was the tiebreaker for LFC to top Stewartville. The Tigers’ sixth runner took 38th place.  Stewartville had four in the top 11. GMLOS’ top runner was Naomi Warmka (22:20.4), as she took ninth. Her teammates Audrey Main (23:57.2) and Sadie Bustad (24:30.7) took 22nd and 28th places respectively. LARPH’s top runner was Caitlin Bauer (21:56.1) with her highest finish ever, sixth place. Vada Larson (24:03.9) and Glory Erickson (24:32.8) then took 25th and 29th places. Chatfield’s Charlotte Oeltjen (22:44.7) took 12th place. Kingsland’s top finisher, Kylie Meyer (24:08.2), took 26th place. Sixty-seven girls competed at the event.
