Mabel-Canton volleyball entered the year with hopes of winning a 1A East title, maybe a Section 1A title, and proceeding on to state.  The latter was dashed because of COVID even before the season started.  The former two then also got dashed.  M-C beat Houston in a sweep (25-15, 25-7, 25-22) to begin the week.  Kenidi McCabe (15 kills, 10 assists, 6 digs), Jordyn Newgard (7 kills, 3 aces), Sophie Morken (4 kills, 19 assists, 5 digs), Molly Lee (4 kills, 5 digs, 7-7 serving, 4 aces), and Lauren Wyffels (4 digs, 4 assists, 9-9 serving, 3 aces) did big work.  Emma Geiwitz (7 digs, 5 aces) and Becca Rostad (10 digs) led the Hurricanes.  Two days later, the volleyball season was cancelled effective November 21.  There would be no post-season, despite an attempt to run a late four-team.  The Cougars wouldn’t get to defend their 1A East title, or attempt for a third 1A title match.  They finished the abbreviated year doing something no Cougar team before has.  They went undefeated.  Schaeffer Academy fell 25-12, 25-8, 25-3 in the last SEC match of the year.  Morken (10 kills, 8 assists, 16-16 serving, 5 aces), McCabe (8 kills, 7-7 serving, 3 aces), Emily Carolan (4 kills), Saijal Slafter (8-8 serving, 3 aces), Newgard (4 aces), and Sahara Morken (6 assists, 4 aces) helped the Cougars serve up 27 aces.  So. Morken and McCabe got 18 total kills on just 21 attacks with zero errors.  Lonnie Morken’s group then scheduled a season finale match at Avail Academy in Minneapolis.  The Valor (11-1) had started the season 11-0 versus inter-city Academy’s, but M-C won in a sweep (25-12, 25-7, 25-15).  So. Morken (8 kills, 11 assists, 7 digs, 9-9 serving, 3 aces), McCabe (7 kills, 13 assists, 14 digs), Lee (7 kills, 7 digs, 3 aces), Newgard (6 kills, 8 digs, 6 aces), Carolan (5 kills), and Sa. Morken (8 digs) gave the Cougars great overall balance.  The win improved M-C to 14-0.  It was determined in the preseason, in the event of multiple games getting cancelled (per COVID), only league division games counted for conference.  M-C (10-0), ranked #4 in Class A in the final poll, grabbed the SEC-East title.  It is their 23rd straight title.
