March 3, 2020 – Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses common in both humans and many different species of animals. The current Coronavirus disease is called COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2. COVID-19 is believed to be spread from person to person through coughs and sneezes and by being in close contact of people with the illness. Coronavirus symptoms include: fever, cough, shortness of breath. Some people may also have muscle aches, headache, sore throat, and diarrhea. Minnesota currently has no cases of COVID-19.
Follow these recommendations to reduce the risk of becoming sick with any disease, including coronavirus:
•Stay home when you are ill and stay away from people who are ill. People are most often contagious when they have a fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and show signs/symptoms of an illness.
•Wash hands with soap and water 20 seconds. Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol when soap and water are not available.
•Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
•Cover coughs and sneezes with your sleeve or a tissue. Dispose of tissues immediately after use.
•Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
