Wrestling: Warriors Grapple Through Gauntlet

Lion girls rally for win over Cougars

The Spring Grove girls won by 12 points after trailing by 11 points in the second half in the 57-45 home decision against Mabel-Canton on Jan. 12. Lion sophomore Kendal VanMinsel had an 11-point, 13-rebound double-double while Addyson McHugh scored a season-high 18 points. It was awesome efficiency on both ends of the floor as the visiting and state-ranked No. 14 Spring Grove boys overwhelmed Mabel-Canton, 85-39, on Friday the 13th in January of 2023. Jaxon Strinmoen put in a career-high 26 points, and Elijah Solum netted another 20 along with 9 rebounds to spur the Spring Grove boys past Grand Meadow, 64-27, on Jan. 10. The Grand Meadow girls remained tied atop the West Division standings after completing a season sweep of visiting Spring Grove, 45-20, on Jan. 11. Lanesboro boys basketball mini-trekked, schedule-wise, through a pair of SEC-East foes, posting two wins. A week opening game versus Mabel-Canton saw the Burros (2-2, 3-3) scoring power exceed the Cougars (3-1, 4-2). Mason Howard hit four first half threes to help stoke a 33-16 Burro halftime edge. Girls Basketball: Hurricanes Whirl Through Burros

The last five SEC-East girls basketball titles have been won by either Houston or Lanesboro. The Burros ended the Hurricanes’ four-year run last year, as the teams finished first and second in the division.
