The 2018-2019 high school sports year has concluded. Another group of young men and women are off to college or the work-force, or somewhere in between. The past sports year, as it pertains to FCJ covered schools, was defined by solid team achievements and a lot of stand-out individuals. In the fall, a main story was Mabel-Canton volleyball. Cougar volleyball is always … [Read more...]

Chatfield junior pitcher Lexi Chase headlines the post-season softball award winners list. For a second time she is named Class AA All-State. It’s her fourth time to make that list overall (HM as an 8th grader, 2nd team as a frosh). Chatfield’s TRC-West champions, Section Final Four appearance, 19-6 season was largely on Chase’s right arm. The 2019 Class A state golf meet, as it pertains to Fillmore County, revolved around three things. All had to do with Fillmore Central. Breitsprecher’s Top Fours Leads LFCMC Brigade
She could already lay claim to being Section’s 1A top hurdler. LFCMC junior Emma Breitsprecher can lay claim to being one of the state’s top Class A hurdlers too. She can probably lay claim to being its best Class A dual-event hurdler. In her second year of qualifying for state in both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles, Breitsprecher posted high finishes in both. But her … [Read more...]
State Track and Field Results
Six relays and seven individuals from FCJ covered track and field programs took on the state meet. They were a very busy group of athletes. Repeat Title Highlights GMLOKS Exploits
Winning a state title isn’t easy. Just getting to state as a team is hard. GMLOKS 4x200 runners Riley Queensland and Hailey Hindt had hopes in basketball (and even volleyball), but strong Grand Meadow squads fell short. Kingsland’s Lauren Buchholtz was a star volleyball and basketball player, but her teams weren’t strong enough to contend for state. Schoolmate Anika Reiland … [Read more...]

In Saturday’s … [Read more...]
O’Hare, Meldahl Carry RPH Flag
Each will have next year. It’s probably a good bet each will make next year’s state track and field meet, all things being equal. The RPH track and field program sent a junior and a sophomore to this year’s competition. Distance runner Luke O’Hare carried on his family’s name well. On Friday, he took on the 3,200-meter run. O’Hare took tenth overall (field of 16) in a … [Read more...]

Both times were under state qualifying standards. Her … [Read more...]
Scheevel, Falcons Six-Peat For State
It wasn’t the ideal title season. A would-be scoring golfer (Keanna Weedman) missed the year per injury. Star Madison Scheevel shot a 50. The team had four losses and won neither a TRC regular season nor meet title. Nonetheless, Aaron Mensink’s Fillmore Central girls golf, for the sixth straight year, are 1A Champs and headed to Becker for the State Class A tourney. In a … [Read more...]
