Tuesday the 21st of September, five Journal-covered cross country programs ran only against another Journal-covered programs amidst two meets in Rushford and Harmony.  On Thursday, September 30, all five squads descended upon the St. Charles Invite.  The top 10 (particularly boys) was littered with Journal-covered athletes.  Five of the top six runners were either from LARP, … [Read more...]

Fillmore County Journal - High School Volleyball

The latter portion of their TRC schedule is going to have Caledonia volleyball facing some big matches.  But it is safe to say “they are back” after last season’s disappointing campaign.  Scott Koepke’s group had just two matches on tap for the week of Monday, September 27, both of the non-conference variety.  They might have posted their best two wins of the season so far.  … [Read more...]

Burros/Cougars Part Deux

October 11, 2021 by Fillmore County Journal

Someday, an SEC team will beat Mabel-Canton in an SEC league game.  It will happen, someday.  Lanesboro hoped that day would be in 2021.  Last year they took M-C to five sets.  Earlier in the season, Julie Schreiber’s Burros had M-C down big in games two and three, but fell in three sets.  The re-match saw the Burros (6-1, 13-3) come in with maybe their strongest team in recent … [Read more...]

Falcon VB Comes From Behind to Beat Trojans

October 11, 2021 by Paul Trende

In a key TRC game, Rushford-Peterson volleyball (4-1, 12-5) hosted Fillmore Central (6-0, 10-7).  Per homecomings, the game was played a 1 p.m. in front of most of the Trojans student body and a bunch of FC’s.  It turned into a tense five-set affair.  The story of games one and two was R-P’s serving and/or FC’s serve receive.  The Trojans had six game one aces, as the Falcons … [Read more...]

FC Football Shuts Out Rockets

October 11, 2021 by Fillmore County Journal

For a second straight week, Fillmore Central football (2-1, 3-1) posted a key sub-district win.  This time, the victim was Randolph (2-1, 3-1) in a battle of second place teams.  The Falcons defense shut-out the Rockets while collecting three turnovers.  FC’s offense wasn’t super potent, but it made enough big plays.  Chris Mensink’s group scored a touchdown on each of its … [Read more...]

Turnovers Aid Larks Past Cards

October 11, 2021 by Fillmore County Journal

The final difference in the game was eight points.  Grand Meadow (2-1, 3-1) had 12 points off turnovers.  Those miscues by #10 in 9-Man LeRoy-Ostrander (2-1, 3-1) proved pivotal in a match-up of South-East sub-district rival reams.  The first half was explosive, though L-O fell into a hole early.  GM’s first drive was capped by a 50-yard Taylor Glynn to Dustin Copley screen … [Read more...]
