Chatfield girls wrestling took first at the Rochester-Century tourney behind titles from Emily Bova (100), Brynn Horsman (118), and Elle Eickhoff (142). A day later, Chatfield was one of just 16 to compete in the first ever Minnesota Girls Dual State Championship (where they took 13th mainly due to a lack of a full roster). Wrestling: Gophers Claim Another Tourney Title For the fifth time this year, Chatfield’s Class A top-ranked Gopher male wrestlers won a team tourney title.  At the Lake City Invite, Matt Mauseth and crew’s group (276.5) topped nearest foes, AAA teams Northfield (184) and Rochester-Mayo (167).  LARP also competed (103.5), taking sixth (of 10).  Seven Gophers won titles.  … [Read more...]

Winona Senior Invite (The Warriors placed third (131.4) among five teams behind both Austin and Winona, ahead of both PI/ZM and Stewartville/Chatfield. Sophomore Vivian Kittleson tied for fourth place among 32 gymnasts in all-around with her career-best score of 34.3500. Caledonia’s boys got 22 points from Reid Klug and 21 from Garrett Konz in beating L-A 97-72. The #3 in AA Warriors then beat Mount Horeb 70-59 at the Midwest Players Classic. Klug scored 27 points. Full-Strength Knights Post 3-0 Week A finally-at-full-strength Kingsland boys squad notched a 3-0 week. A non-SEC game versus Fillmore Central was a battle. Grove Girls Extend Winning Streak to Six The Spring Grove girls improved to 11-3 while extending their winning streak to six. Wrestling: All Five Area Squads Mix It Up The week in wrestling saw the five ‘Journal-covered’ squads mix it up. Caledonia/Houston hosted Chatfield and W-K for a triangular. Cal/SG/Hou 132.4250, PI/ZM 133.4000 (The Warriors received the highest varsity and junior varsity team scores under the current coaching staff. Cal/SG/Hou had three of the top four all-around gymnasts with Vivian Kittleson second, Harper Myrah third and Ayla Lange fourth. Cayden Lea scored 28 points as R-P’s #7 in Class A boys beat PEM 78-47. Cole Thompson scored 22 as R-P beat Kingsland 74-52 for their ninth win in a row. Max Erdman had 21 in defeat.
