October 16, 2017 by Hannah Wingert

When Julie Kuslrud opened Los Gables in 2006, she had plenty of experience as a waitress, having worked as one at various restaurants for most of her adult life.  However, running her own restaurant was a whole new ball game.  On top of that learning curve, she also knew nothing about Mexican food.  “I didn’t know an enchilada from a burrito,” she said, laughing. October 16, 2017 by Kirsten Zoellner

October 16, 2017 by Barb Jeffers

Lisa Pickett always enjoyed watching people get their hair done, so naturally, when the time came to choose her career, she waved other options and got straight to work with her scissors. Pickett, who grew up in and graduated from Preston, Minn., attended Austin Area Technical Institute in 1983-84, where she received her certification in cosmetology. New owners “meating” customer needs

September 25, 2017 by Rich Wicks

The brats are just as delicious as ever, but the “Kraut” is on the side now.  That’s one way to summarize what’s happening at Valley Butchery and Meat Market in Spring Valley.  Another description would be: the more things change, the more they stay the same.  The business has a new name, but was known for the past 50 years as Kraut’s Locker.  Effective July 1, Ken and Janell … [Read more...]
