Cardinal Volleyball Runs Streak to Three

November 16, 2020 by Paul Trende

Fillmore County Journal - High School Volleyball

It is pretty easy to be overshadowed on the volleyball front when it comes to the teams the Fillmore County Journal covers.   Mabel-Canton, Fillmore Central, Grand Meadow, Lanesboro, Kingsland, Chatfield, and Spring Grove are all (well) above .500.  With a 2-0 week, Lindsay Milks’ LeRoy-Ostrander Cardinals moved their name into that plus-500 group.  The Cards first swept Glenville-Emmons 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-15).  Anna Welsh (3 kills, 27 assists, 8 digs), Gracie O’Byrne (24 digs, 5 aces), Sam Volkart (8 kills), Jordan Runde (7 kills, 11 digs), Kayden Schulte (5 kills, 17 digs), and Sidney Lewison (5 kills, 3 aces) led the way.  L-O then posted its best win of the year, getting revenge versus neighbor Southland in a tough sweep (25-18, 26-24, 26-24).  O’Byrne (29 digs), Schulte (7 kills, 17 digs), and Welsh (3 kills, 22 assists) joined with Volkart (8 kills), Jordan Runde (4 kills, 15 digs, 6 aces), and Sidney Lewison (9 kills, 4 blks) to make it a team-effort.  The Cardinals (5-4) have won three straight.  L-O hasn’t been plus-500 after nine matches since probably 2012.  They started 7-2 and went 20-10 that year.
