The junior jumper cleared the bar at 6-feet, 2-inches, which was one inch higher than he had achieved while advancing at the sub-section (first place) and section (second place) meets. His career-best had been 6-04 while winning the Three Rivers Conference championship. The top two jumpers at state each cleared 6-07 while the third through fifth-place medal-winners went 6-03. Four of the top six places went to seniors. Pieper and third-place Jory Peters of Minneapolis North both retain eligibility for 2022.
