Caledonia/Houston wrestling stayed unblemished courtesy of winning three duals the first week after the New Year. In non-conference action, Cal/Hou hosted Waukon. Forfeits loomed large. The Indians won four of seven matches wrestled, but the Warriors took forfeits at 138 (Isaac Blocker), 145 (Tucker Ginther), 152 (Cory Scanlan), 195 (Ayden Goetzinger), 220 (Tyler Jennings), and 285 (Grant Ness). Shay Mahoney’s group trailed 18-6 after four weights, but lost just twice more for a 54-27 win. Braxton Lange (113), Owen Denstad (132), and Alec Weinbender (170) added pins. Cal/Hou then trekked to Harmony for a triangular with the Wolves and La Crescent/Hokah. FCLMC first beat the Lancers 60-12, taking forfeits at 106 (Clayton Knutson), 132 (Kyle Daniels), 138 (Connor Wingert), 182 (Oliver Hoeltzle), 195 (Bodey Wright), and 220 (Aaron Hutton). Kane Larson (113), Carter Hovland (145), Cole Sass (160), and Orion Sass (170) added pins. Two weights (126, 285) were double forfeits. Cal/Hou then handled LC/H 70-6. The Warriors took forfeits at 106 (Lange), 126 (Tanner Ginther), 132 (Denstad), 138 (Blocker), 182 (Eric Mauss), 195 (Goetzinger), and 285 (Ness). Simon Seymour (120), Tuck. Ginther (145), Austin Swenson (160), and Jennings (220) had pins. Seymour was engaged in a competitive match with Nolan Schreier before notching a second period pin. Hunter Frank (113) scored a 15-2 major decision. The Warriors two losses (152 and 170) were both by decision. Scanlan (152) trailed LCH’s Joey Schreier 3-2 entering the third period, but fell 9-2. Weinbender (170) was tied 3-3 with Xavier Colbert after two, but fell 10-3. The main course was then Cal/Hou versus FCLMC. Eight matches went into the third period. After ceding wins at 106 and 113 for an early 6-0 deficit, the Warriors lost just two matches. Jordan Beeman (126), Denstad (132), Blocker (132), Tuck. Ginther (145), Scanlan (152), Jennings (195), Goetzinger (220), and Ness (285) all had pins. Beeman, Denstad, and Scanlan did so in the third period. Scanlan led FCLMC’s Boston Wright 5-2 before getting his. Seymour (120) won the only forfeit. Blocker (138) won a 15-0 tech fall. Mauss (182) won a back-and-forth 13-10 decision over the Wolves’ Orion Sass. FCLMC got a pin from Hoeltzle (170), a 17-6 major decision from Cole Sass (160), and decision wins from Knutson (106) and Larson (113). Knutson won 14-7 over Alex Walters. Larson won 8-5 over Lange. The final team score was 56-16. The Warriors wrestled all three match-ups without Brandon Ross (#1 at 120). They improved to 9-0 overall. The Warriors ranked #12 in Class A. FCLMC is 5-3 overall.
