
Caledonia/Houston, Chatfield, and Goodhue wrestling teams are hoping to be big factors in Section 1A.
All are ranked or rated Lean and Mean. Those schools and Glenwood City (WI) hooked up for a notable quadrangular. Matt Mauseth’s Chatfield (4-1) squad took care of GC handily, 61-15. The Hilltoppers had just three wins, none after 152. Chatfield took forfeit wins at 170 (#4 Kail Schott), 195 (#6 Campbell Berge), and 285 (Caden Nolte). Ryan House (113), Alden Pearson (120), Carson Rowland (132), Luke Carrier (145), Grady Schott (#2 at 182), and Ethan Ruskell (220) authored pins. Sulley Ferguson (160) won an 11-2 major decision. Jack Dornack (138) toughed out a 3-0 decision win. On the other mat, Cal/Hou (9-0) got off to 12-0 and 21-9 leads versus Goodhue (9-1). They won four of the first six matches. But the Wildcats took 145 (#2 Maddox O’Reilly 6-3 decision over Tucker Ginther), 152 (#6 Makae O’Reilly pin), 160 (pin), and 170 (Jeremiah O’Reilly 5-0 decision over Alec Weinbender) to lead 27-21. Eric Mauss’ 8-5 decision win over Kade Altendorf (182) pulled the Warriors close (27-24). After a Wildcat pin at 195, Ayden Goetzinger (220) authored a 16-0 tech fall to again pull the Warriors close (33-29). But Cal/Hou forfeited 285 (to #5 at 195 Cody Lohman). They fell 39-29, their first loss. Braxton Lange (106 > pin), Owen Von Arx (113 > forfeit), Owen Denstad (132 > pin), and Isaac Blocker (138 > 9-3 decision over Beau Jaeger) had Cal’s early wins. Blocker recently got ranked #1 at 138. Each team was down at least one ranked wrestler. Shay Mahoney’s Warriors then handled Glenwood City. After falling behind 19-0, Cal/Hou didn’t lose a match. They prevailed 43-19. Denstad (132), Blocker (138), Tuck. Ginther (145), and Mauss (182) had pins. Goetzinger (195) won a forfeit. Austin Swenson (152 > 4-2), Jacob Francis (160 > 11-5), and Weinbender (170 > 6-3) won decisions, Tyler Jennings (220 > 10-2) a major. Heavyweight was a double forfeit. Chatfield (5-1) and Goodhue (10-1) grappled simultaneously. The Gophers got wins from Kaisen Johnson (106 > pin), #5 at 106 Javier Berg (113 > forfeit), Ben Carrier (126 > pin), and Carson Rowland (132 > pin) in the first five weights for a 24-3 lead. Their only loss was #6 at 113 Gage Bartels falling 5-0 to Lucas Bortz at 120. Goodhue then took three straight from 138 to 152, including the ranked O’Reilly’s getting wins at 145 and 152, making it 24-18 Gophers. At 145, Luke Carrier got a late takedown to force overtime versus #2 Maddox O’Reilly, but then fell 8-6. Thad Evans’ 8-4 decision win (160) got Chatfield back to winning. K-Schott (pin), G-Schott (forfeit), and Berge (pin) then made it academic with wins from 170 to 195. Nolte added a forfeit win (285). Chatfield prevailed 51-24. The Gophers improved to 6-1.
