Buchholtz Tops 1,000; Knights Sweep Sweep

In the span of a few hours, versus Chatfield, Kingsland b-ball players posted some rare feats.  In Spring Valley, Lauren Buchholtz started the night 13 points away from 1,000.  Late in the first half, after a Knight steal, the 5’8” junior guard out-raced all for an easy glide in lay-up.   It put her at 1,001.  She joins Paisley Larson (1,296), Amy Mahlum (1,217), Cheyenne Losey (1,176), Lindsey Erichsen (1,143), Molly Greiner (1,133), Savanah Oeltjen (1,128), Emily Greiner (1,109), and Jenna Tammel (1,010).  Game-wise, Kingsland’s lead ballooned to 45-22.  Each team subbed a lot.  The margin narrowed to 56-50, but despite Chatfield scoring, calling time-out, and then getting the ball, Kingsland prevailed 58-50.  Buchholtz (21 pts, 9-11 FTs, 11 rebs, 5 assists) led the way.  Lindsey Welch (13 pts, 6-8 FGs) and Ellie Buchholtz (5 pts, 9 rebs, 5 assists) helped.  Macy Pederson (15 pts, 3-7 threes) and Belle Berg (13 pts, 5 rebs) led the Gophers.  In Chatfield, it was all Knights minus Zach Bubany (teeth).  Kingsland had one first half turnover, 12 offensive rebounds, and 13 second-chance points.  They led 46-26 at halftime and cruised to a 75-50 win.  Junior Wyatt Pruter (27 pts, 4-7 threes, 9-10 FTs) had a big game.  Jordan Beck (15 pts, 7-10 FGs, 9 rebs) and Jackson Rindels (12 pts) also hit double-digits.  Reid Kruegel was good (7 pts, 11 rebs, 6 assists) replacing Bubany.  Kingsland won the boards 49 to 29.  Chatfield was led by Landon Bance (15 pts, 4-5 threes), Josef Fahrenholtz (11 pts, 7 rebs, 3 blks), and Reid Johnson (10 pts).  Kingsland’s teams thus do something no county team has done in the four years of the current TRC East/West format.  They sweep (8-0) their county TRC foes (Chatfield, FC, and R-P).  In the old North/South format, the last county TRC sweep (12-0) was also by Kingsland’s teams in 2006-2007.  The boys finished 28-1, the girls 26-4.
