Rushford-Peterson (20-4) came in the 2-seed in the Section 1A boys tournament and had no problem downing 15-seed Schaeffer Academy (11-16). The #5 Trojans played super-efficient basketball, making 50% of their field goals (19 of 38), 59% of their three’s (10 of 17), and 85% of their free throws (11 of 13) in downing the Lions 59-35. R-P led 38-18 at intermission. Seniors Justin Ruberg (21 pts, 4-5 FTs, 10 rebs) and Malachi Bunke (19 pts, 6-6 FGs, 5-5 threes, 2-2 FTs) led the way, the later not missing a shot. Grady Hengel added 5 (pts), 7 (asts), and 4 (stls). The win was R-P’s eleventh straight and it marked the 8th time they’ve held a foe under 40 points. Another time was the teams’ regular season match-up, won 66-30 by R-P. The Trojans (21-4) move on to face 7-seed Southland (17-6), which beat 10-seed Lanesboro in the Round of 16. R-P beat Southland 61-52 in February.
