Fillmore Central’s boys averaged 84 points per game in winning thrice the week of January 15. Brady O’Connor’s group topped St. Charles 97-76. Greg Kennedy (22 pts, 8-12 FGs, 6-7 FTs, 11 rebs), Luke Hellickson (21 pts, 8-12 FGs, 3-5 threes, 5 rebs), Jayce Kiehne (19 pts, 9-13 FGs, 7 rebs) and Josh Haugerud (14 pts, 6-8 FGs, 5 rebs) combined to shoot 31 of 45 (69%) and score 76 points! Kennedy posted his sixth double-double. The Falcons won by 19 despite St. Charles hitting 12 of 39 threes (31%) to FC’s 5 of 17 (29%). FC hit 18 of 25 free throws (72%) to SC’s 6 of 10 (60%). FC then topped Chatfield 75-31 at Mayo Civic Auditorium as part of the HVL/TRC Showdown. Hellickson (22 pts, 9-11 FGs, 7 rebs, 5 stls), Kiehne (17 pts), and Kennedy (12 pts, 6-9 FGs, 7 rebs, 4 blks) did work. Cole Novotny (9 pts, 5 rebs) led the Gophers. Helped by a 14 to 26 turnover discrepancy, FC took 58 shots, Chatfield 30. The Gophers fell to 0-7, 2-15. FC then played its second straight double-header, hosting rival Lanesboro. Seniors Hellickson (15 pts) and Kiehne (13 pts) combined for 28 first half points. The Falcons transitioned to a 42-21 halftime lead and coasted to an 80-41 win. Kiehne (21 pts, 6 rebs, 4 asts), Hellickson (19 pts, 3-9 threes), and Kennedy (15 pts, 7-10 FGs, 6 rebs) again did work. Will Harvey (9 pts, 8 rebs, 4 asts) and Mason Howard (9 pts) led the Burros. FC (3-6 in TRC, 9-7 overall) has now gone 8-2 after a 1-5 start. The losses are by four in two overtimes and by two. Lanesboro fell to 3-7, 3-11.
