Lanesboro’s boys trailed by four with less than a minute left in regulation, by three with under 30 seconds to go in overtime, and by four late in a second overtime, but somehow came out victorious over Lyle/Pacelli. Senior guard Mason Howard hit two huge shots to lead his team to a needed win. In regulation, a Howard three and one David Harvey free throw annulled a 60-56 Athletic lead late, tying the score at 60. Harvey missed a second go-ahead free throw and L/P’s final possession went nowhere. In overtime, trailing 70-67, Howard hit a fall-away three late to tie the game at 70. L/P subsequently missed a game-winning three. In the second overtime, Lanesboro trailed 76-72 late. A Will Harvey steal and layup was followed by Howard drilling a three in the final 0:15 seconds for a 77-76 lead. Howard then poked the ball away on L/P’s ensuing possession, cementing the victory. The Burros were coming off a 49-31 loss to Cotter. Howard (28 pts, 6-17 threes) scored 19 points after intermission. W-Harvey (23 pts, 4-9 threes, 7 rebs, 7 asts) also had a big game. Levi Rogers (9 pts, 7 rebs) and Kaden Stettler (6 pts, 9 rebs, 6 asts, 4 stls) helped. L/P was led by Chase Bauer (24 pts) and Landon Meyer (21 pts, five threes). The teams combined for 21 threes (L 11 of 38, 29%; L/P 10 of 36, 28%). Both teams left points at the free throw line (L 14 of 30, 47%; L/P 20 of 36, 56%). L/P had 19 turnovers, the Burros 11. They had turnovers their last three possessions of the second overtime. They had two turnovers in the second half but five in the two overtime sessions. Lanesboro did not have an overtime turnover.
