Boys Basketball: Burros Run Win Streak to Five

January 23, 2023 by Paul Trende Leave a Comment

Lanesboro’s Logan Wilder angles to flip in a layup versus the defense of Rushford-Peterson’s Sampson Wilkemeyer. It was a good week to be a Burro guy. Lanesboro posted a 63-43 win over the Trojans, their first victory over R-P since the 2006-2007 season. Matt Asleson’s group went 3-0 to improve to 8-3. They’ve won five straight.

Lanesboro boys basketball ran off a three-win week. The Burros jumped out 21-6 on Rushford-Peterson and led the duration. The closest R-P got from there was 24-19. Lanesboro got the 63-43 win. Matt Asleson’s group were led by John Prestemon (24 pts, 4-11 threes, 6 rebs, 3 asts, 3 stls) and Logan Wilder (19 pts, 7-12 FGs, 3-3 FTs, 5 rebs, 9 asts). Mason Howard chipped in 9 points (3-5 threes). Dawson Bunke (14 pts, 3-10 threes, 7 rebs) led the Trojans. Caden Johnson (8 pts) and Grady Hengel (7 pts) helped. Lanesboro shot 45% (24 of 53) to R-P’s 35% (17 of 49) while also having just eight turnovers to the Trojans’ 17. The Burros haven’t beat R-P since the 2006-2007 season (albeit, they haven’t played every year). Lanesboro’s second victim was Alden-Conger. The Burros shot 48% (37 of 77) in putting up a season-high point total in an 87-64 win. Prestemon was the man with a huge game (37 pts, 16-28 FGs, 3-6 threes, 9 rebs). Howard (9 pts), Trae Mathison (8 pts), and Logan Torgerson (8 pts, 4 asts) helped. Lanesboro ended by downing Kingsland at home, 64-49. The Burros led 45-19 at intermission, though the Knights then got to within 10 (55-45). Prestemon (17 pts, 8 rebs, 7 asts, 8 stls), Howard (12 pts), Parker Storhoff (11 pts, 4-4 FGs, 3-3 threes), and Wilder (11 pts) hit double figures. Torgerson chipped in 9 (pts) and 8 (rebs). Jayden Brink (21 pts, 7-10 FTs, 6 rebs) led Kingsland. Sam Snitker added 9 points. A 21 to 11 Knight to Burro turnover margin was a key stat, as was three-point shooting (Lanes 9 of 22, 41%; King 4 of 20, 20%). Lanesboro (5-2, 8-3) sits behind Schaeffer (6-1, 8-5) and SG (5-0, 7-1) in the East. Kingsland fell to 2-4, 3-8.
