Boys Basketball: Burros Take Down Cards and Cougars
Lanesboro basketball continued its big season, maybe its best week. Matt Asleson’s group took down TRC-West leading Lewiston Altura and SEC-East second place Mabel-Canton, holding both under 35% shooting. The Burros’ win over L-A was maybe their best of the year. The Burros trailed 48-42 in the second half, but outscored L-A 27-15 to the close. They hit three straight threes to go ahead 51-48. With under five to go, Carter Clarke had back-to-back baskets and Boone Moen hit a big three. The lead grew to 63-54. L-A hit just three of its final 21 shots. They struggled against Lanesboro’s halfcourt zone. The Burros prevailed 69-57. Lanesboro shot 45% (25 of 56) to L-A’s 31% (22 of 72) while also winning at the free throw line, 11 of 16 (69%) to 6 of 9 (67%). The Burros have beat the top two teams in the TRC-West, L-A (7-2, 13-4) and Chatfield (7-3, 12-7). It was a big section win, as the Burros are third in the 1A QRF behind Southland (15-1) and L-A. Hosting SEC second-place M-C (7-3, 12-5), Lanesboro (7-2, 13-3) expanded its East lead. The Cougars struggled to find good looks, shooting 16 of 51 (31%). Lanesboro shot 44% (23 of 52).
