Full-Strength Knights Post 3-0 Week
A finally-at-full-strength Kingsland boys squad notched a 3-0 week. A non-SEC game versus Fillmore Central was a battle. The Falcons were down multiple rotation players and it showed early. The Knights jumped out 23-7. FC first fought back to down four twice. Kingsland replied, building a 37-25 lead. FC then battled back again, spurting 12-0 to tie the contest at 37. The Falcons made 14 of their last 15 first half two-point field goals! Greg Kennedy, a 6’5” senior, made 10 in a row, scoring 17 in the stanza (8-9 FGs). The Knights scored the last four to lead 41-37 at intermission. The second half had 12 lead changes. Kingsland led 70-67 lead with about 4:00 to play. Each team made just one field goal over its last seven possessions. Falcon Josh Haugerud tied the game 70-70 with a corner three (0:34). Knight Zach Reiland then got free inside for a lay-up to put Kingsland up 72-70 (0:16). FC did not attempt a game-tying or winning field goal, giving the Knights the win. Parker Johnson (19 pts) and Gavin Hubka (18 pts, 3-5 threes, 7-11 FGs, 7 rebs) led Kingsland. Max Erdman (10 pts, 5 rebs) and Z-Reiland (9 pts, 6 asts) helped. Kennedy (21 pts, 10-12 FGs, 10 rebs, 7 asts, 4 stls), Bridon Bahl (19 pts, 3-10 threes), and Haugerud (12 pts, 8 rebs, 7 asts) led the Falcons. Logan Illg (8 pts) helped. Each team made 21 twos, FC eight threes, Kingsland seven. The Falcons thus made 29 total field goals, Kingsland 28 (each 50% shooting). But Kingsland hit 9 of 19 free throws (47%), FC just 4 of 5 (80%). The Falcons also had 25 turnovers, Kingsland 16. Jim Hubka’s guys then ripped Lyle/Pacelli 92-39, scoring a season high. Erdman went for 28 points (12-19 FGs, 10 rebs, 4 asts, 4 stls). Johnson (16 pts), Kaaleem Reiland (15 pts, 3-5 threes), G-Hubka (13 pts, 10 rebs), and Caden Reiter (9 pts, 6 rebs) helped. Against Mabel-Canton, Erdman was again a force (32 pts, 13-19 FGs, 14 rebs) in a 77-57 win. Johnson added 21 points. K-Reiland (8 pts) and Hubka (7 pts, 5 rebs) helped. Darian Hershberger (21 pts, 8-11 FTs, 3-4 threes, 11 rebs) led M-C. Kale Eiken (12 pts, 5-7 FTs) and Isaac Underbakke (8 pts, 5 rebs, 6 asts) helped. Kingsland (6-3, 9-5) is in second in SEC-West behind Southland (11-0, 15-0). M-C fell to 4-7, 5-9.
Trojan Teams Overcome ‘Canes in Second Halves
Rushford-Peterson and Houston’s teams did non-conference battle. The girls game saw the ‘Canes (4-3, 9-4), down starting guard Avery Kingsley (injury), play even with the Trojans (7-2, 8-4) for a half, 28-28. The score was 36-36 when R-P scored seven quick points. The run became 11-0 for a 47-36 lead. R-P spurted 10-0 a bit later too, and prevailed 68-50. Junior guard Nadia Happel scored a game-high 27 points (5-7 threes, 9-15 FGs, 4-4 FTs, 6 asts). Torryn Schneider (14 pts, 4 rebs, 8 asts, 4 stls), Kaia Loney (13 pts, 6-8 FGs, 8 rebs), Nevaeh Happel (8 pts, 5 stls), and Ava Helgemoe (6 pts, 7 rebs) also did work. Aubry Boldt (16 pts, 4 asts) led the Hurricanes. Jorja Meyer (11 pts, 5-7 FGs, 9 rebs) and Olivia Yohe (11 pts) helped. R-P finished with 11 turnovers, Houston 22. The Trojans also made nine of 28 threes (32%), Houston three of 13 (23%). R-P won last year 69-31. The boys game saw the formerly ranked Trojans (5-2, 10-2) host the SEC-East leading Hurricanes (6-1, 8-3). It took a Cole Thompson triple for R-P to have an edge at the intermission, 31-29. Team green then started the second half scoring 25 of 36 to build a 56-40 lead (8:43). R-P got the win 69-60. Sophomore PG Cayden Lea hit four second half threes and scored a game-high 29 points (5-11 threes, 11-20 FGs, 5 rebs, 5 asts, 4 stls). Landon Dahl (10 pts, 5-6 FGs, 5 rebs) helped off the bench. Thompson added 9 points (3-9 threes). Morgan Rohweder (23 points, 4-9 threes, 5-6 FTs, 7 rebs) and Carter Geiwitz (15 pts, 6-9 FGs, 9 rebs) led the ‘Canes. Zach Olson chipped in 8 (pts) and 8 (rebs), and 5 (asts). The ‘Canes finished with 25 turnovers, Trojans 16. R-P won last year 64-41. The Trojans then beat Dover-Eyota, 84-55. Lea (24 pts, 5-10 threes, 7-13 FGs, 5 asts) continued his good play. Will LaFleur (16 pts, 3-6 threes, 6-10 FGs), Carson Johnson (14 pts, 6-7 FGs, 4 asts), and a perfect shooting Dahl (12 pts, 6-6 FGs) also did work. R-P hit 12 of 24 threes (50%), 29 of 48 FGs (60%). Chris Drinkall’s youngsters improved to 6-2 in the TRC, 12-2 overall.
Falcons Sweep Series With Lanesboro
In a Saturday doubleheader, Fillmore Central’s boys and girls swept Lanesboro in their rivalry series.
FC’s boys jumped out 25-4. Lanesboro got as close as 52-49 in the second half, but FC then went 8-0 to lead 60-49. Andy Todd’s group prevailed 65-55. Bridon Bahl (21 pts, 3-6 threes, 11 rebs, 4 asts), Greg Kennedy (17 pts, 10 rebs), and Josh Haugerud (17 pts, 5-12 threes) scored all but 10 Falcon points. Nick Taylor (23 pts, 7-7 FTs, 11 rebs, 5 stls) had another big game (an impressive dunk) to lead the Burros. Levi Rogers added 9 (pts) and 7 (rebs). The Falcons were 10 of 29 (35%) from deep with 23 TOs, Lanesboro 4 of 12 (33%) with 31 TOs. FC (5-3, 8-9) has won six of seven. Lanesboro fell to 4-5 in the SEC, 7-8 overall. In the girls game, Lanesboro led just twice, 3-2, and 26-25. FC led 35-28 at the half. The closest Lanesboro then got was down 45-41, only for a 6-0 Falcon run. Levi Olstad’s group prevailed 63-55. Sophia Bronner (12 pts, 14 rebs, 5 blks), Kyla Hellickson (11 pts, 8 rebs, 5 asts), and Haley O’Connor (12 pts) led the way. Brooklyn Simon (8 pts) and Cora Britton (6 pts, 7 rebs) helped. Jensyn Storhoff (22 pts, 5-7 FTs, 7 rebs, 6 stls) led the Burros. FC focused a lot on her defensively. Cora Mayer (9 pts, 4-5 FGs) and Hailey Erickson (6 pts, 8 rebs) helped. FC is 4-5 in the TRC, 9-9 overall. Lanesboro is 4-3 in the SEC, 7-7 overall.
Three Rivers Conference Boys Basketball (1/16)
Fillmore Central 80, PEM 71 (FC: G. Kennedy 30 pts (12-17 FGs), 11 rebs, 5 stls; Bridon Bahl 16 pts (6-10 FGs); Anthony Kiehne 10 pts; Clayton Schoepski 6 pts, 5 rebs, 9 asts. FC led 42-25 at halftime, and 55-27 with 14:30 left in the second half only for PEM to get within 12 (61-49) with 10:00 left. Seven (78-71 late) was as close as PEM got though. FC shot 51% FG’s (30 of 59), 39% from deep (7 of 18), and 65% (13 of 20) from the line. It was FC’s fifth win versus the TRC West)

Spring Grove 71, Mabel-Canton 33 (SG: Bryce Berns 18 pts (7-7 FTs), 7 rebs, 4 asts; Ben Udstuen 14 pts (4-6 threes), 6 rebs; Lyric Stadtler 9 pts (3-8 threes). M-C: Isaac Underbakke 10 pts, 7 rebs; Tyler Larson 7 pts, 7 rebs. The Cougars led for the first fourth of the game, but the Lions played with a season-fewest seven turnovers, a season-most 11 baskets from 3-point land and a 14-to-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. M-C scored a season-low. Lions > 4-5, 5-8)

Houston 29, Southland 60 (H: C. Geiwitz 12 pts (3-7 threes). Southland led 27-19 at halftime, out-scored the ‘Canes 33-10 in the second half. Houston’s Morgan Rohweder was held to two points. The game was a matchup of the SEC-East leading Hurricanes (6-1, 8-3) and the West leading Rebels (10-0, 14-0). Houston (6-2, 8-4) leads the East over SA (7-5, 7-7))
Grand Meadow 60, Lyle/Pacelli 48 (GM ended a nine-game losing streak, picking up their second win of the year with both coming against the Athletics. Larks > 2-8, 2-11)
