Boys Basketball: Three Wins Runs Trojans Win Streak to Five
Rushford-Peterson’s boys downed Baldwin-Woodville and TRC foe Fillmore Central at their home holiday tourney, and got a good Class AA win over Lake City at the Southern Minnesota Hoops Festival, to improve their win streak to five. The Trojans topped B-W 86-53 amidst the 3-Coop Shoot-for-Three tourney. Six Trojans made double figures; Carson Johnson (14 pts, 7-10 FGs, 6 rebs, 4 asts, 3 stls), Will LaFleur (14 pts), Brode Vickerman (12 pts, 4-5 FGs, 4-4 FTs), Cayden Lea (11 pts, 3-9 threes, 6 asts), Landon Dahl (10 pts, 3-5 FGs, 4-4 FTs), and Cole Thompson (10 pts, 4 asts). RP hit 33 of 62 total shots (53%) and 11 of 12 free throws (92%). The Trojans also overmatched FC 93-35 at said event. RP hit 15 of 31 threes (48%) while FC was 0 of 8. The junior Johnson (17 pts, 8-13 FGs, 11 rebs, 8 asts) led the way. Lea (14 pts, 4-11 threes, 4 asts), Thompson (14 pts, 4-8 threes), Jaxson Meldahl (13 pts, 3-7 threes, 4 asts), and LaFleur (12 pts, 5-8 FGs, 5 asts) gave R-P five in double figures. Creighton Hoiness added 7 (pts), 6 (rebs), and 4 (asts). FC was led by Clayton Schoepski (14 pts, 5 rebs). Bridon Bahl added 6 (pts) and 6 (rebs). The Falcons are 0-2 in the TRC, 2-6 overall. R-P then notched a big win over Lake City in Byron. The Tigers were last year’s 1AA runner-up to Caledonia, The Trojans out-scored Lake City 38-22 in the second half to overturn a 32-31 halftime deficit. The final was 69-54. It was again a balanced attack led by Lea’s double-double (13 pts, 3-11 threes, 6 rebs, 11 asts), Johnson (13 pts, 5-6 FGs, 6 asts, 6 asts), LaFleur (14 pts), and Dahl (12 pts, 6-9 FGs, 5 rebs). Meldahl added 8 off the bench. The Tigers got a game-high 26 points from Gavyn Lorenson. R-P hit eight threes, the Tigers two. R-P shot 48% overall (27 of 56). The Tigers left with a 5-6 record but it was their first defeat by double figures including losing to #2 in AA Goodhue and #10 in AAA Stewartville each 62-59. R-P (3-1, 8-2) trails Caledonia (3-0, 6-3) and Cotter/Hope Lutheran (2-0, 9-1) in the TRC-East.
Boys Basketball: Larks Top Alden-Conger, Test BP at Home Tourney
Grand Meadow boys basketball has played a set of holiday games for several years. Over the past three, the Larks went 0-6. Coach Chad Burmester’s group broke said trend while testing undefeated team as this year’s event. Versus Alden-Conger, the Knights had 33 turnovers, the Larks 19, in a 79-59 Grand Meadow win. Carter Glynn (23 pts, 10 rebs, 3 asts, 3 stls) continued his strong season. Cohen Craft (17 pts, 8-14 FGs, 6 rebs), and Keaton Gehling (15 pts, 4-10 threes, 6 asts, 4 stls) also hit double figures. Logan Grafe (8 pts, 6 rebs) and Jackson Soltau (8 pts) helped. The headliner of the tourney was then the Larks (5-1) versus undefeated Blooming Prairie (9-0). The game was tied 33-33 at the half and a few minutes into the second before the Blossoms had a 11-0 run to lead 44-33. They kept GM arms-reach away in posting an 83-74 win. Glynn went for a game-high 39 points (14-25 FGs, 10-13 FTs) and 11 rebounds. BP’s Gabe Staloch had 30 points (6-11 threes). He was one of five Blossoms in double figures. Grafe added a double-double (16 pts, 3-3 threes, 10 (rebs) for GM. Soltau (8 pts) and Gehling (7 pts, 7 stls) helped. BP his 11 of 31 threes (36%), GM 5 of 16 (31%). They out-rebounded GM 50 to 33. The Larks hit 13 of 19 free throws (68%), the Blossoms 4 of 8 (50%). BP improved to 10-0.

Spring Grove 44, St. Charles 79 (SG: Weston Ingvalson 11 pts; Devon Williams 10 pts, 7 rebs; Kolton Nerstad 8 pts; Lyric Stadtler 7 pts, 6 asts. The Saints shot 50%, including 46% of threes (12 of 26) at St. Charles Tourney)
Blooming Prairie 86, LeRoy-Ostrander 40 (L-O: R. Hungerholt 22 pts, 6 rebs. Grand Meadow holiday tourney game)
#1 in AA Goodhue 81, Chatfield 56 (C: C. Harstad 17 pts (3-10 threes); Brandt McBroom 12 pts, 4 rebs, 3 asts, 3 stls; Kaiden Brenna 9 pts; Ross Stoehr 8 pts. The Wildcats led just 28-26 at halftime before winning the second half 53-30. Chatfield had 22 turnovers, the Wildcats 8)
West Salem 93, Caledonia 79 (C: G. King 29 pts (three threes); Aaron Stemper 18 pts; Evan Milde 10 pts; Coby Hammell 10 pts; Colin Stemper 8 pts. Caledonia led 40-24 in the first half but the game was tied 44-44 at halftime. West Salem is 5-1)
Alden-Conger 52, LeRoy-Ostrander 55 (L-O: G. Stockdale 22 pts (6-16 threes), 8 rebs; R. Hungerholt 17 pts (6-10 FTs), 14 rebs; Talan Lewison 7 pts, 10 rebs; John Bradley 7 pts, 14 rebs. With it tied 50-50, Lewison scored on a lane jumper (1:14) and Hungerholt stole the ensuing in-bounds and scored to make it 54-50 Cardinals with about 1:00 left. AC then didn’t score until the final seconds. GM tourney game. The Cardinals are 1-1 in the SEC, 3-3 overall)
Spring Grove 52, La Crescent/Hokah 76 (SG: Ricardo Reynolds 7 pts, 13 rebs; D. Williams 16 pts, 6 rebs, 4 asts; L. Stadtler 14 pts (4-8 threes). Lancers outscored the Lions 46-22 in the paint in the third-place game at St. Charles tourney. Two SG starters were out with injuries. The Lions are 3-1 in the SEC, 3-6 overall)
Caledonia 59, #3 in AA Pequot Lakes 55 in OT (C: G. King 27 pts (six threes); C. Hammell 12 pts. It was the Patriots’ (7-1) first loss. Game at the Target Center)
