It is looking more and more like the TRC-East champions in girls and boys basketball will be Caledonia.
Girls Breeze Thru TRC Foes to Stay League Unbeaten
Scott Sorenson’s Warrior girls won three games versus TRC foes. The last victory opened up a big lead in their division. The #15 in AA Warriors first had no problem downing St. Charles 70-17 and Lewiston-Altura 88-44. Eleven different Warriors scored in the victory at the Saints. Ava Privet (13 pts, three threes), Josie Foster (12 pts), and Jovial King (12 pts) made double figures. Alexis Schroeder added 7 points. The 17-points against was a season-best defensive out-put. The 88 points-for at home versus L-A was a season-high. Caledonia led 51-25 at half, hit 11 threes, and had 10 players scored. They are 6-0 when scoring 70-plus. Privet (23 pts, seven threes) continued her three-splashing to lead the way. Paige Klug (14 pts) and Schroeder (13 pts) also made double figures. Aubrie Klug (9 pts) and Foster (7 pts) helped. The cap to the week was a contest at La Crescent/Hokah (7-1, 11-3), which sat behind the Warriors (9-0, 15-3) in the East standings. Caledonia built a 36-18 first half lead and cruised to a 63-41 win. Ten Warriors scored led by Schroeder (14 pts, four threes), A-Klug (13 pts), and Foster (12 pts). No Lancer made double figures. The Warriors (10-0, 16-3) hold a multi-game lead in the East over Cotter (8-2, 12-4) and the Lancers (7-2, 11-5). They still have a game with the Ramblers.
Boys Rip SC, Nip L-A in OT, Handle La Crescent
The young Warrior boys, meanwhile, had a 3-0 conference week to again prove the point, the TRC-East boys’ title goes through Caledonia. The Warriors first had no problem with St. Charles, winning 90-50. Caledonia won the second half 42-12. They hit 17 total threes. Lewis Doyle (20 pts, three threes) and Mason King (19 pts, six threes) led the charge. Will Hahn (9 pts, three threes), Mason Schroeder (8 pts), and Ben Stemper (8 pts) helped. Twelve Warriors scored. A game at Lewiston-Altura was a battle. It was a re-match of last year’s 1AA semi, narrowly won by Cal 55-53. The Warriors narrowly escaped an upset by the Cardinals (2-4, 5-6). It took overtime, but Cal prevailed 77-70. Doyle (27 pts, three threes) was huge. Garett Konz (14 pts, 10 rebs), King (11 pts, three threes), Ethan Stendel (9 pts, 10 rebs), and Hahn (8 pts) helped. The teams combined for 21 threes (C 10, L-A 11). That set up a match-up of the Warriors (6-1, 7-6) versus La Crescent/Hokah (6-1, 11-4) for the East lead. The Warriors generally controlled things, lead hovering around 10. LCH made a couple runs. After falling back 54-41, the Lancers went 12-2 to pull within four, 57-53. But Garrett Konz hit a pair of threes push the lead back to 10 (63-53). The Lancers then got within five (69-64) with 2:45 left. But Cal finished the game scoring 11 of the final 13 points. Doyle had nine (7 of 8 FTs). Team Cal prevailed 80-66. The junior guard Doyle led the way with his second straight 27-point game. Konz (14 pts, three threes) and King (12 pts) also hit double figures. Schroeder (8 pts) and Stendel (7 pts) helped. The Warriors hit 11 threes to LCH’s seven while winning at the free throw line (18 of 24 to 13 of 15). Cal ended the week losing versus Holmen 79-65, as they are 0-5 versus non-Minnesota schools. Doyle (15 pts), King (12 pts), and Stendel (12 pts) made double figures. Brad King’s group (7-1, 8-7) leads La Crescent/Hokah (6-2, 11-5) in the East. The teams have one more meeting.
