Caledonia’s baseball and softball teams each continued their great starts to the season. By the end of the week, each moved its win streak to seven. Shawn Bauer’s diamond dudes continued to win things with their pitching. Across three games, 20 innings, they gave up just three total runs. In a home non-conference affair with Wisconsin’s Blair-Taylor, the Wildcats leadoff man walked and later scored, but then it was nada for runs for B-T. Warrior pitchers Will Allen (5 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 8 K, Win) and Drew Yahnke (2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K, Save) tossed a combined one-hitter, as team Cal posted a 4-1 win. Tanner Ginther (2-4, 2 R), Reid Klug (2-3, R), and Jack Schmitz (1-1, R, RBI) supplied just enough offense. Caledonia then played a double-billing at Rushford-Peterson. In game one, the Warriors roughed up R-P starter Caden Johnson for eight earned runs in 3 2/3 innings. Garrett Konz (3-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) took advantage of an out-blowing win to blast a home run, the biggest shot in an 8-1 Caledonia win. Yahnke (6 1/3 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 6 K) collected the win (2-0) while also helping himself a smidge at the plate (1-3, RBI, R). Owen Denstad (1-3, 2B) drove in three runs. Ben Stemper (1-3, 2B, RBI, R) and Tanner Ginther (1-4, 2B, RBI, R) helped on offense. Caden Johnson (2-3, R) and Evan Kammerer (1-2, 2B) led R-P offensively while Cayden Lea (3 1/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K) did not surrender a hit in relief work in a no decision appearance. In game two, Landon O’Heron (6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 8 K) took care of things on the mound, posting the win to also improve to 2-0. Caledonia knocked Trojan starter Rylan Schneider out in the third inning, building a 9-1 lead after three. They prevailed 11-1 in six innings. Klug (3-4, HR, 3 RBI, R) used the wind to his advantage in blasting a home run. Stemper (2-4, R) drove in three runs. Konz (2-3, 2B, 2 R), Ginther (1-4, RBI, 2 R), W-Allen (1-2, 2B, R), Denstad (1-3, RBI, R), and Hunter Goetzinger (1-2, 2 RBI) helped the Warriors to their best offensive out-put of the season. Zach Baker (2-3, 2B, RBI) and Jonah Bunke (1-1, R) plated R-P’s run. It was the Warriors’ seventh straight win. Caledonia (6-0, 7-1) and La Crescent/Hokah (5-0, 5-0) are atop the TRC East. The Warriors have given up just nine runs in their win streak and 13 on the season. R-P fell to 2-3, 2-4.
Warrior softball had just a doubleheader with R-P. It was mostly easy sailing despite a 20-30 mile per hour wind whipping in from the outfield. Not too much made the outfield. In game one, Caledonia had eight walk-RBIs. Trojan pitching gave up 19 free passes. Caledonia won 17-2 in five innings. Paizley Lange (1-2) had three RBI and three runs to lead the Warriors. Avery Augedahl (2-3, RBI, 3 R), Elsa Blum (1-1, RBI, 2 R), Vivian Kittleson (1-2, 2 RBI, R), and Kennedy Hansen (0-1, RBI, 3 R) helped on offense. Braelyn Lange (4 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K) did not surrender a hit in collecting the win. She improved to 4-1. Ellie Ekern and Shelby Tesch scored for the Trojans. Game two saw the Warriors win 13-0 in five innings. Augedahl (5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K) was an error and a hit-batter away from a five-inning perfect game. The freshman (1-2) also scored twice. Hansen (2-3, RBI, 2 R), P-Lange (2-3, 2B, RBI, 2 R), Adrienne Lange (1-2, 2B, RBI, 2 R), and Annah Anderson (1-2, RBI, R) also supplied offense. The Warriors (4-1, 7-1) won their seventh in a row. They trail Cotter (6-0, 6-1) in the TRC-East. The only loss for Chad Augedahl’s squad is to the Ramblers, 6-5, in the season-opener. The Warriors are scoring 10-plus runs per game.
