Baseball can be simple. If your pitcher dominates the other team’s line-up, your chances of victory are high. Caledonia baseball rode its pitching staff to a three-win week. Warrior hurlers gave up just three total runs in the three games. At Fillmore Central/Lanesboro, Reid Klug shut down the Falcons. The 6’4” junior struck out 11 (7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, Win, 1-2, RBI, R) in leading the Warriors to a 7-1 win. Offensively, Drew Yahnke (2-4, 2 RBI, R) and Garrett Konz (2-4, R) had two hits. Will Allen (1-4) drove in two runs. Levi Rogers (2-3, R) and Bridon Bahl (1-3, RBI) combined to plate FC/L’s run. Bahl (4 1/3 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, No Decision) also pitched in relief of Falcon starter Tyson Sprenger. Clayton Schoepski (1-2) added a double for FC/L. Caledonia out-hit the Falcons 9-4. Versus Lewiston-Altura, Landon O’Heron did good work on the mound (5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K, Win) in helping the Warriors to a 10-0 win in six innings. Ben Stemper (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R), Klug (2-4, 2 RBI), Owen Denstad (1-3, 3 RBI), Konz (1-3, 2B, RBI, 2 R), Hunter Goetzinger (2-3, 2B), and Tanner Ginther (1-3, 2 R) brought good aluminum. For their fifth game of the year, Caledonia played its home-opener versus Dover-Eyota. Pitching was the difference. D-E walked seven, hit three, and had six wild pitches. Konz walked one, hit nobody, and had two wild pitches. He struck out 13 and came one out away (pitch count) from a complete game in collecting the win (6 2/3 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB). Caledonia had a three-walk, two hit-batter, two-hit, six-run third inning to lead 6-0. Konz (1-4, 2 RBI) and Denstad (1-2, 2 RBI) each had two-run singles in the inning. The Warriors prevailed 6-2. Stemper added two hits (2-2, R). The win was the Warriors (4-0, 4-1) fourth in a row. D-E won last year’s meeting 7-3.
