Five of seven Journal covered football teams picked up wins week six. Three improved to 4-2. R-P (2-1, 4-2) clobbered W-K 46-14. Mabel-Canton volleyball coach Lonnie Morken entered the year with 679 career wins. Given the Cougars almost never stray below 25 wins in a season, 700 was just a matter of time. Chatfield football started the year with two wins, freshman tailback Sam Backer making a big early splash. The Gophers then dropped back-to-back contests to Triton (16-14) and Caledonia (41-8).
