Fillmore Central volleyball was in the midst of a very good season. The Falcons had 11 seniors. Included were All-TRC picks Maddie Krage and K.J. Corson. In a normal year, they would’ve been a force in the play-offs. Twenty-twenty isn’t a normal year. And then it just might’ve ended. The Falcons played what appears to be their last two matches of the year on November 10 … [Read more...]
Larks Finish Regular Season Perfect
Grand Meadow football played a game that finally wasn’t somehow super asterisk-worthy significant. After a season of on-field (and off-field) obstacles, Gary Sloan’s group ended the year with a rousing win devoid of any huge meaning, short of it clinched a perfect regular season. The now #1 in 9-Man Larks beat Nicollet 61-20 to conclude the regular campaign 6-0. GM built a … [Read more...]
Burro Football Wins Fifth Straight, Grabs Bell
It wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t dominating. It was a bit feisty. When Lanesboro and Houston football get together, it is often times a brawl as the squads vie for the series’ token ‘Bell’. James Semmen’s Burros (4-1) came in amidst a great season. Cody Hungerholt’s Hurricanes (2-3) came in having dominated the series as of late, taking the last five in-season battles plus … [Read more...]
Big Fourth-Period Plays Propel Lions Past Cougars, 28-24
Spring Grove needed two 97-yard possessions and three plays covering more than 80 yards to finally overtake Mabel-Canton, 28-24, on snow-frosted Blayne Onsgard Memorial Field. Trailing the Cougars by two scores in the fourth quarter, the Lions rallied with two home run tosses from Isaac Griffin – first for 86 yards to Caden Grinde and then for 82 yards to Reid Bjerke. The … [Read more...]
The State of Area Sports
The fall sports season is starting to wind down, albeit uncharacteristically. As of November 17, football and volleyball teams are in a state of flux due to COVID. Fillmore Central is on distance learning until December, annulling the Falcons from the football play-offs, ending their season. FC volleyball is down also, though a small possibility remains they play again … [Read more...]

Burro Football Takes Down #5 Southland
It has been awhile since Lanesboro football posted a truly marquee victory. Their last great win probably dates to 2013, when the (Niko Anderson) Burros (over the course of two days, oddly) beat eventual state champion Grand Meadow. Lanesboro finished 8-2, losing to GM in the 9-Man semifinals. That was the Burros last season of note. Until, that is, this year. Entering … [Read more...]
Lark Football Downs Houston, Stays Perfect at 5-0
Through the first four weeks of the season, GM football overcame obstacle after obstacle. They beat the defending state champions. They beat a couple rivals. They beat a fellow state ranked team. Gary Sloan’s group hurdled Mountain Lake, Spring Grove, LeRoy-Ostrander, and Southland to stay unbeaten. Their week five opponent also was of significance. GM trekked to Houston … [Read more...]
