Arvid Elwin “Stub” Blade

July 29, 2021 by Fillmore County Journal

Arvid Blade obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Arvid Elwin “Stub” Blade of Spring Valley, Minn. died on July 28, 2021, in the Ostrander Nursing Home at 90 years of age.

Visitation for Stub will be held at Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley, Sunday, August 1, from 3-5 p.m. with a meal served from 5-7 p.m. at the Spring Valley VFW Hall. Graveside service and burial will be on Monday, August 2, at 4:30 p.m. at the Spring Valley Cemetery.

Stub was born September 17, 1930 in Chester, Iowa, to Arthur Sr. and Iness (Simons) Blade. He attended Wykoff Schools and graduated in 1949. He worked for Seneca Foods (formerly Reed Murdoch Co. and Libby’s of Spring Valley) for 40+ years before retiring in 1992.

If he wasn’t fixing a tractor in the field, you could often find him fishing. He took his children snowmobiling, camping and fishing, but he especially loved fishing and never gave up the location of his favorite secret fishing hole.

Stub was preceded in death by his parents, brother Arthur Blade, sisters Carol Blade and Helen Brock, and toddler son Robert.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Anne Elizabeth “Liz” Anderson Blade, sister Karen (Sam) Bettin, daughter Susan Totenhagen, son Thom (Christy) Blade, daughter Dawn (Robert) Merkel, grandsons Troy (Tina), Travis (Kim), and Matt (Stephanie) Kelly, Sean (Missy) Totenhagen, Corey (Alex) and Ethan Merkel, Dylan Blade, granddaughter Hayley (Matthew Colonna) Blade, and many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
