LFCMC wrestler Vivienne Hoeltzle, of Canton, made the USA Wrestling National Minnesota Team and competed in Fargo, N. Dak., in July. She won her first match, wrestled the #1 seed in her bracket of 91 girls, and tied a match (which was awarded to her opponent due to Freestyle rules that awards ties to the competitor who scored the last point). Vivenne was pleased to compete at this elite level of girls wrestling, and was glad to work with the coach of the Augsburg College team, who served as one of the coaches of the Minnesota National Team. On Wednesday, July 24, the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association put on its All-Star match at Mounds View High School.   The event was held in conjunction with the Coaches Association’s annual summer clinic.  Six area athletes and two coaches took part in the event; Mabel-Canton’s Kinley Soiney and Sahara Morken along with their coach Lonnie Morken, Chatfield’s Harper Goldsmith and Jaelyn LaPlante, Fillmore Central’s Kammry Broadwater, and Caledonia’s Logan Koepke alongside her coach Scott Koepke.   Four teams consisting of nine and ten players each played a tourney.  The winning team was Team Dzubay, named after Stewartville Hall of Fame Coach John Dzubay.   Morken and Koepke were co-coaches of the team, while players Soiney, Morken, LaPlante, Goldsmith, and Koepke played were players.  In the finals, Team Dzubay topped Team Mader, named after Hall of Fame Coach Maria Mader.   FC’s Broadwater was a member of Team Mader.  Team Dzubay also beat Team Weaver.  They won each match 2-0.  The tournament MVP was from Team Dzubay, Morgan Bjella from Marshall.  Players on the four teams were mostly from the most recent Class of 2024 and the Class of 2025.  M-C’s Soiney and Chatfield’s Goldsmith were the only two Class of 2026 kids to compete (juniors to-be).
