Alan D. Williams, 73, of Wykoff, Minn., passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021, in Rochester, Minn.
Al graduated from Wykoff High School in 1966, entered the Army and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kans. He married the love of his life, JoAnn Rowe, on June 22, 1968. She passed away on November 9, 2014.
Al and JoAnn returned to the area and he went to work for the City of Spring Valley. They moved to Wykoff and they owned/operated the Wykoff Rec Center, Forest Inn Restaurant and he worked for the City of Wykoff. He was active in the community and served on the Wykoff Fire Department for 30 years and as fire chief, Wykoff Lions, Wykoff Councilman, and served as Mayor of Wykoff until his death.
Al enjoyed spending time at Cedar Ridge hunting, taking his dog Lilly on runs, playing Cribbage or 500, listening to stories around the campfire or on a sunny day taking his pontoon and going fishing.
His love of sports showed in a variety of ways; he coached basketball, softball, and football for many years and made an impact on a lot of kids!
He is survived by his children Colin (Paula McGranahan) Williams of Prior Lake, Minn., and Bruce (Stacy) Williams of Milford, Kans.; four granddaughters: Abigail, Alexandra, Hailey, and Chloe; brother Randy (Teri) Mensink of Wykoff, Minn.; sisters Pamela (Rick) Sikkink of Chester, Iowa, Debra Wermager of St. Louis, Mo., and Connie Wermager Gouldin of Saint Peters, Mo.; stepbrothers Craig (Linda) Early of Preston, Minn., and Kevin (Meredith) Early of Alliance, Nebr.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roger and Nancy Mensink, wife JoAnn, and brother Rory.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21 at the Wykoff Community Center.
A private family burial with Military Honors will be held prior to Al’s Celebration of Life.

I spent many lunch hours and evenings at the Rec center in the 70’s. Al was always there being a friend to all the kids. Rest in Peace.
