Donald Dean Richardson, age 91, passed away at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Preston on May 20, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Donald was born on August 16, 1934, in rural Grand Meadow, Minn., the son of Hervey Richardson and Ada Smart. He attended rural and public schools in Grand Meadow. He entered the United States Navy June 6, 1952, and was honorably discharged August 2, 1955. He attended Austin Junior College for two years.
He married Gloria Jean Meyer on November 2, 1956, at First English Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, Minn.
He farmed for a few years in Wykoff, Minn. He was employed by Anderson Lumber Company in Grand Meadow, Minn. He was employed by Chrysler Plymouth Garage in Paynesville, Minn. He was employed by Usem Chevrolet in Austin and Akkerman Manufacturing in Brownsdale, Minn., for 20 years. He retired in 2000.
Don’s hobbies were woodworking, puzzling, fishing and hunting. He was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Brownsdale. He was grateful for his family, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Don will greatly be missed by his wife Gloria, of almost 70 years of Brownsdale, Minn.; his children Teresa (Dave) Narveson, Kay (Bruce) Narveson, Debra (Mark) Thoe, Roger (Dianne) Richardson and Cheri Richardson; his grandchildren Richard (Jeanie) Narveson, Crystal (Josh) Ristau, Jenny (Bryan) Guderian, Ashley Narveson, Jacob (Clare) Narveson, Rachel (Andrew) Budik, Brian( Hali) Thoe, Gretchen (Luke) Pederson, Lauren (Alex) Glaser, Dean Richardson and Jadyn Guzman; great-grandchildren Logan and Kaleb Narveson, Kyra Throckmorton, Mason, Cadance and Skylar Ristau, Shane and Sofia Guderian, Avery, Aubrey and Paisley Budik, Leighton and Owen Thoe and Rhyan Pederson, his sister Darlene (Richard) Steinhorst, and brother-in-law Merlin Meyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the First English Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, Minn. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., prior to the start of the service. Burial will be at Spring Valley Cemetery in Spring Valley, Minnesota.
