Just a couple months removed from winning the Section 1AA title in high school softball and taking fifth (consolation champs) in their first ever state berth, girls softball players from Caledonia added another notch to their impressive belt. The Caledonia Post #191 Legion team were substate Southeast Champions.
At state, Caledonia beat Bemidji 19-1, Wayzata 9-0, and then Adams 14-1 for the Minnesota American Legion Fastpitch state title. The team from Adams is essentially the Southland team that won the Section 1A title, meaning it pitted the Minnesota State High School League Section 1A and Section 1AA champions against each other for the title. The Caledonia team was coached by Brad Augedahl and Tony Lange. Team members are Ashlyn Reinhart, Paizley Lange, Vivian Kittleson, Adrienne Lange, Elsa Blum, Brairy Proulx, Nora Staggemeyer, Avery Augedahl, Lily Wiebke, Lily Augedahl, and Ayla Lange. They are pretty much a mirrored team from that who went to state this year. Avery Augedahl was the tournament’s Most Outstanding pitcher and cousin Lily Augedahl was tourney’s Most Outstanding Player. La Crescent had represented the Southeast at state the past three years. This year’s tournament was held in St. Joseph, Minnesota (outside of St. Cloud), July 31 thru August 2.
