#7 Gophers Blank Snakes

September 24, 2018 by Paul Trende

Fillmore County Journal - COVID-19 issues dominate Chatfield School Board meetingChatfield Gophers

A team can’t lose if it yields zero points.  Chatfield football proved that point in notching their third victory of the year.   The first half versus Triton was a choppy offensive quagmire; four total first downs, seven three-and-outs, Chatfield with 46 total yards of offense, 0-0 score.  The Gophers found some offense in the third quarter, breaking the seal late in the stanza on a 25-yard Reid Johnson to Ben Brogan TD connection, the later making a great juggling one-handed catch (6-0).  Midway through the fourth, the Cobras had their last chance.  Starting in Gopher territory, they made the 25, but were denied.  Chatfield replied with a 7-play, 66-yard drive.  Gage Tuohy’s 31-yard TD run on 4th and 5 sealed the deal.  Defense again yielding under 200 yards to its opponent, Chatfield prevailed 14-0.  Tuohy’s last run gave him his third 100-yard effort (17-111, TD rushing) this year.  Carson Larrabee (10-45 rushing), Johnson (3-13, 49 yards, TD, INT passing), and Brogan (2-35, TD receiving) helped.  Chance Backer was a defensive stand-out, notching a blocked punt and a sack.  The 7th-ranked Gophers move to 2-0, 3-0.
