Chatfield wrestling won its last two TRC duals to go unblemished through the league. The final two obstacles were Dover-Eyota and FCLMC. For all intents and purposes, it came down to Chatfield and the Eagles. The Wolves do not field a full team. Battles between the Gophers and D-E have been fierce lately. Last year, Chatfield won 34-32. A year previously, Chatfield won 35-31 in the regular season but watched the Eagles win the 1A title match 33-30 (via a win at 285). And thus, a dominating win by Matt Mauseth’s Gophers was out of the ordinary. Chatfield reigned without top ranked guys Javier Berg and Kail Schott. Jameson Priebe (107 > 9-1 major), Logan Pearson (114 > 10-7 decision), Kaisen Johnson (121 > fall), Hunter Polikowsky (127 > fall), and Gage Bartels (133 > fall) posted early wins for a 25-0 lead. After D-E’s #3-ranked Bolton Thesing won a 7-1 decision over Alden Pearson, Jack Dornack (145 > 12-6 decision), Carson Rowland (152 > fall), Ayden Miner (160 > 16-1 tech fall), and Ben Carrier (172 > fall) won four in a row to make it 45-3. Miles Mulhern’s pin (285) capped a 51-15 win. The Gophers then beat host FCLMC, 73-0. Only four matches were wrestled. Priebe (107) and Rowland (152) notched pins. A-Pearson won an 8-0 major over Connor Wingert while #6 Miner (160) beat #4 Kane Larson by 5-1 decision. Chatfield took forfeits at 114 (Wes Goetzinger), 121 (Johnson), 127 (Polikowsky), 133 (Bartels), 145 (Dornack), 172 (Carrier), 189 (Will Boelter), 215 (Bralyn Burnett), and 285 (Mulhern). The Wolves also lost to D-E 60-16, forfeiting eight weights. Grant Daniels (133) and Larson (160) posted falls. Boston Wright (152) won a 11-2 major. The Gophers are your TRC Champions. The 36-point win versus D-E was their closest TRC dual! They beat Cal/Hou 58-6, PEM 64-9, LC/H 72-4, St. Charles 64-9, GMLOS 60-12, W-K 75-0, and LARP 58-11! League foes won just 13 of 117 matches; Chatfield had 45 pins. The #1 Gophers boast seven ranked guys: Berg (#1 at 114), Johnson (#5 at 121), Bartels (#2 at 133), Rowland (#9 at 152), Miner (#6 at 160), Schott (#1 at 189), and Mulhern (#2 at 285). Chatfield (9-0, 15-1) is 1A’s 1-seed, will wrestle either 9-seed FCLMC (1-6, 4-16) or 8-seed St. Charles (10-14).
