The entire Fillmore County Journal community grieves alongside the family and friends of two-year-old April Marie Meyer, who tragically lost her life in a farm accident on Tuesday evening, April 9.
April is described as having a “vibrant, always spunky personality.” She is survived by her parents, Jordan and Rachelle Meyer of rural Caledonia, and her six siblings: Natalie, Layne, Ashton, Gabe, Kade and Layla plus grandparents, aunts and uncles, special cousins, and family friends.
The community has rallied around the family to raise funds which will assist the family with funeral expenses, emergency medical service costs and other expenses to support the young family. The couple’s online store and the brick-and-mortar store located on the family farm, Wholesome Family Farms, will be closed for the foreseeable future.
If you would like to donate to the family, a GoFundMe account at gofundme.com, has been set up in April’s name. As of Monday, April 15, $40,896 has been raised, thanks to the generosity of 526 donors.
A memorial fund in honor of April has been established at Merchants Bank in Caledonia. Contributions can be made at any of the Merchants Bank branches.
Fruit Trees for April. Hidden Springs Peony Farm in Spring Grove invited the community to participate in honoring April’s memory by gifting the family with fruit trees. The offer, posted at the end of last week, has already sold out all the trees. According to the Facebook post, April’s mother had plans to plant fruit trees this year, “making this gesture a small way to commemorate April’s memory. All trees and profits will be donated to the family.
On April 20, Liz, a bartender at Buzzard’s Bar and Grill in New Albin, will be generously donating all her tips that day from her shift which runs from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. to the family. Additionally, the bar will be hosting a summer raffle on the same day, with 100% of the proceeds going to the family.
Donation jars/buckets are set up at Buzzard’s Bar and Grill until April 21, Ma Cal Grove County Club from Saturday April 13 through April 20, Little Miami starting April 13, Hummer’s Pub in Hokah from April 12 through April 27, and at the Caledonia American Legion Post 191 from April 13 through the end of the month.
The Caledonia American Legion Post 191 is also hosting a raffle during the month of April to “help the Meyer family during this unimaginable time in their lives.”
A testimony to the love and support from the community for April and her family.
