Girls Wrestling: Gophers Sweep Pine Island Quad

As girls wrestling continues to grow, there will be increasingly more specific girls dual meets. Chatfield trekked to Pine Island for a girls quadrangular with the Panthers, Rochester-Mayo, and St. Charles. The Gophers, who have good girls wrestling participation numbers, won all three duals. They built a 45-18 lead on Mayo and downed the Spartans 45-30. The Gophers took 100 (Melody Ward) by forfeit while forfeiting 190 and 235. Maizee Priebe (112), Bryn Goetzinger (118), Brynn Horsman (130), Elle Eickhoff (142), Kendyl Nolte (155), and Eve Goetzinger (170) won by fall while Emily Bova (106) grappled out a 4-3 decision. Versus the Panthers, Chatfield took the first three weights to lead 18-0. PI then took the next four to lead 21-18. The Gophers then took next four to lead 42-21. They prevailed 42-27. Chatfield won 106 (Bova), 112 (Priebe), and 148 (Eickhoff) by forfeit while forfeiting 235. There was a double forfeit at 190. Ward (100), Amelia Sladek (142), Nolte (155), and E-Goetzinger (170) won by fall. Versus St. Charles, the final was 57-18 Chatfield. The Gophers took 124 (Horsman), 130 (Kinley Manahan), and 155 (Nolte) by forfeit while forfeiting 190. Ward (100), Bova (106), Priebe (112), B-Goetzinger (118), Eickhoff (142), and E-Goetzinger (170) won by fall. E-Goetzinger won all three of her matches at the quad by first period fall. Ward, Bova, Priebe, Eichhoff, and Nolte went 3-0. Eickhoff notched her 50th career pin.

Wrestling (12/22 & 12/23)

#7 in AA Zumbrota-Mazeppa 61, Caledonia/Houston 8 (The Warriors’ two victories were a 21-5 tech fall by Cooper Allen (215) and a 7-2 decision by Will Allen (172). Cal/Hou is 0-0 in the TRC, 2-8 overall)

Waterville-Elysian-Morriston/JWP Quad > GMLOS 40, WEM/JWP 33 (In a dual where GMLOS trailed four times by one, 6-5, 12-11, 18-17, and 24-23, WEM/JWP went ahead by four 33-29 heading to 215. Bulldog Drake Payne (215) then notched a 19-3 tech fall and Wyatt Krull a fall to give the Bulldogs the win. Chase Van Hill (121), Parker Armagost (139), Cael Smith (145), and Felix Christenson (160) also had pins, Lincoln Lunning (114) a 22-7 tech fall for GMLOS. The girls also had seven matches with Bulldogs Karina Lee (100), Mariah Severson (118), Addysin Hubbard (124), and Zoe Steinkamp (142) notching pins; GMLOS 35, Lake Crystal Welcome Memorial 39 (GMLOS led 29-22 after 160 but lost three of the final four weights.) The Bulldogs led 35-33 heading to 285, but Mason Adams’ tech fall of W. Krull at 285 gave LCWM the match. L. Lunning (114), C. Van Hill (121), P. Armagost (139), Calum Sween (160), and D. Payne (215) had pins for the Bulldogs, C. Smith (145) won a 15-0 tech fall. LCWM was a state qualifier last year.); GMLOS 39, Blue Earth Area 34 (The Bulldogs annulled a 24-15 BEA lead after 145 by winning 152, 160, 189, and 215, all by first period fall. It gave GMLOS a 39-28 lead heading to 285. C. Van Hill (121), P. Armagost (133), C. Smith (152), C. Sween (160), Ayden Stier (189), and D. Payne (215) won by fall, L. Lunning (114) by 8-3 decision. GMLOS forfeited 139 and 145. The Bulldogs are 1-1 in the TRC, 6-5 overall).
