Words from David Dunn, Preston Veterans Home Administrator

January 22, 2024 by Fillmore County Journal

David Dunn

The new year is underway, and the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs has opened their first new veterans home in over 25 years here in beautiful Preston! We officially opened our doors on January 3, 2024, admitting our first four residents. As a veteran myself I am honored and excited to lead this phenomenal team and serve fellow veterans. Sitting on top of the 15-acre blufftop surrounded by 200-year-old native white oak forest, our veterans have a wonderful view of Preston and the beautiful countryside. I’m looking forward to spring as the campus has been beautifully landscaped with over a 100 new trees, bushes, and plants strategically planted around the campus. We are also very proud of the new “First Minnesota” drive you use when you come to visit. Our plan is to hold a dedication ceremony later this spring where we will invite the whole community to help us celebrate this historic year in Preston.

I am proud of the community of Preston, all the local businesses, legislators, Preston City Administration, and everyone who spent the last decade advocating for this project. It’s great to see this beautiful dream finally become a reality. By employing 100-plus employees, my hope is that this will have a positive impact on the local economy for housing and spending locally. Thank you for all your support and donations through the year and into the future.

We hope that you will help us welcome these 54 new community members who will call this beautiful location “home,” by stopping by for a visit, volunteering your time or including them in your community events.

Your kindness, support, and generosity mean so much to the veterans we serve.

Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do to help us fulfill the needs of Minnesota Veterans and their families.
