Fillmore County Journal, Wendell Nordby obituary

Wendell J. Nordby, 92, of Rushford, Minn., died on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.

Wendell James Nordby was born

February 3, 1926, in Spring Valley, Minn., to Hans and Henrietta (Hatlestad) Nordby. He was raised in the Leroy/Ostrander, Minn., area. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Seaman First Class. On May 7, 1950, he was united in marriage with Carolyn Larson in Oakland, Nebr. He owned and operated his own jewelry store in Rushford from 1952 until retiring after the Rushford flood in 2007.

Wendell is survived by five children: Don (Susan) of Winona, Minn., Carol (Bruce) Ramsdell of Winona, Robert of Rushford, Ruth and Helen, both of Winona; three grandchildren: Matthew Nordby, Collin (Camila) Nordby, and Allen Santema; two great-grandchildren, Ellie and Ayla; a sister, Thelma Tangen of Rochester, Minn.; a brother-in-law, Eugene Chamberlain of Tekamah, Nebr.; and by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn; a son, James, who died in infancy; a brother, Clarence Nordby and a sister, Helen Healy.

There will be a funeral service for Wendell at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Rushford Lutheran Church, with The Reverend Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018, at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Rushford and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

    It is a loss for our combined Nordby/Hatlestad family. I was just reviewing some of the history of Edna Hatlestad Hong. Hope there is a. Big reunion of those Nordby / Hatlestad cousins in heaven! Love from Jane Johnson Kyle
