Wayne Roger Sievers was born on April 18, 1937, in Rushford, Minnesota, to Arnold and Etta (Heiden) Sievers.
After graduating high school, he moved to California to marry the love of his life, Diane (Ebner). He held several jobs in California but always knew he wanted to work as a heavy equipment operator. Eventually he was welcomed into the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 12 and never looked back. Wayne loved his work and took part in some remarkable projects, building California’s highways, bridges and dams. For “fun,” he bought raw land and developed it into avocado groves, and he ultimately managed an avocado operation. After he retired, Wayne returned to Rushford and purchased a piece of the farm where he was born.
Wherever he lived, Wayne was an active member of the Lutheran church, most recently St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart, Minnesota. His faith was the backbone of his character.
Wayne will be remembered for his love of tractors and hard work, and for his lifelong love of the community of Rushford.
Wayne passed away on September 22, 2026, in Rushford, Minnesota, at the age of 89.
Wayne is survived by his two daughters, Brenda Remington and Susan Provost; five grandchildren: Kristen Remington, Kelli Remington-Lynch, Hunter Remington, AJ Provost, and Connor Provost; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Diane, his parents Arnold and Etta, and his siblings Darold, Norman, Ethel, Charles, Lois and Betty.
Wayne leaves behind a loving family, including many nieces and nephews he adored, and a legion of friends he enjoyed so very much. He will be greatly missed by all.
Service will be held 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart, on Monday, September 28, with no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Organ Fund at St. John Lutheran Church.
