1948–2025
Wayne Aldis Gordon, 76, beloved by many, passed away February 6, 2025, at his home.
He was born in Red Wing in 1948 to Aldis and Inga “Luella” Gordon (Hendrickson) and grew up in Houston, Minn.. After attending college, Wayne served in the Army from 1969 to 1971, including a combat tour in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne. He married Rebecca Jo Gordon (Kaehler) from Winona in August 1977 and moved to Winona, where he continued to reside. Rebecca passed away in 1993.
Wayne’s story was one of optimism and resilience. Despite suffering many tragedies, Wayne never lost his zeal for life nor joy and amazement in the simple wonders it held. He always had a smile on his face and a mischievous glint in his eyes. He was a lover of classic cars, music, chess, pool, puzzles, reading, woodworking, and all things mechanical. He drew great happiness from his family and many lifelong friends. Wayne lovingly adored his five grandchildren and enjoyed simply being in their presence.
Wayne was a devoted and loving father to his children Melissa and Travis, who dearly miss him and the many stories he shared. He took great pride in being a parent to them and was especially proud to see them accomplish their dreams and raise their own families. Travis followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the Army, serving three combat tours in Iraq, eventually becoming a law enforcement officer. Melissa completed college and became an accountant.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Aldis and Luella Gordon, and his wife Rebecca Gordon.
He is survived by his siblings Roger Gordon and Violet Belter, his children Melissa (Ryan) Butterfield and Travis (Anne) Gordon, and his five grandchildren.
