Warren Woodle Rasmussen, age 91, of Mabel, died on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Green Lea Manor, Mabel, Minn., with his family by his side.
Warren was born January 21, 1926 to Oden and Helen (Woodle) Rasmussen at their home. He grew up in the Henrytown/Lenora area. Warren attended the State Line Country School and Newburg Country School. He was confirmed at the Newburg Methodist Church. Warren married Ormah Garnes at the Mabel Parsonage on August 30, 1946. They resided in northern Iowa and southeastern Minnesota their entire lives. He was a lifelong farmer and was self-employed in trucking. He traveled many miles trucking for neighbors and others in the local communities.
Warren had a love for horses, mules, and wagon rides. He raised, trained, and traded horses his entire life. He could be found at many of the local horse sales in southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa. Warren was an original member of the Rawhide Ropers and the Circle A Saddle Club in Blackhammer, Minn. He was a member of the Scheie Lutheran church, in rural Mabel.
His children and grandchildren will always have fond memories of Warren taking them on wagon rides and going through parades with his teams of draft horses and mules.
Warren is survived by his wife Ormah; five children: Neil (Karen) Rasmussen of Mabel, Owen (special friend Lisa) Rasmussen of Lime Springs, Iowa, Jill (Rick)Hauser of Winona, Brett (Rochelle) Rasmussen of North St. Paul, and Boyd (Sara) Rasmussen of St. Charles; daughter-in-law Wanda Rasmussen of Mabel; 14 grandchildren: Terry (Tracie), Julie, Shelley (Jason), Kathy Jo (Dusty), Pam (Michael), Tara (Dan), Lance (Jessica), Kara (Jack), Sheena (Matt), Blake, Luke, Emma, Micah, and Asher; 18 great-grandchildren: Samantha (Jason), Amanda, Ethan, Landon, Kelsey, Cody, Jessie, Carson, Bentley, Axel, Cole, Austin, Wyatt, Madalynn, Olivia, Max, Raegan, and Reid; three great-great-grandchildren: Reece, Chloe, and Clayton; two sisters, Jean (Harlan) Eiken of Mabel, and JoAnn Palari of La Marque, Tex.
Warren was preceded in death by his sons, Terry (infant) and Barry (age 67); one brother-in-law; and one nephew.
Funeral services were held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel, with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 10 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
