Entering the week of Monday, October 9, it was mostly just a foregone conclusion Mabel-Canton volleyball would win the SEC-East.   Sweeping 3-0 wins over Lanesboro and Houston made it official. M-C downed the Burros 25-13, 25-11, and 25-16.

Tylar Wenthold had a season-high 11 kills.  Sahara Morken (4 kills, 32 assists, 9 digs, 13-13 serving, 4 aces), Kinley Soiney (10 kills, 7 digs), Saijal Slafter (9 kills, 21-23 serving, 3 aces), and Kailey Ingvalson (8 digs) helped.  Lanesboro was led by Claire Keasling (11 assists, 13 digs), Jensyn Storhoff (3 kills, 12 digs), and Ellie Howard (10 digs).

M-C beat Houston 25-8, 25-21, 25-9.  Soiney (9 kills, 5 digs, 4 ace blocks), Slafter (9 kills, 10 digs, 3 ace blocks), Morken (3 kills, 29 assists, 7 digs, 21-21 serving, 3 aces), and Ingvalson (4 kills, 8 digs, 3 aces) did work.  Houston was led by Ellasyn Carrier (10 digs), Emily Botcher (7 assists), and Avery Kingsley (4 kills).   The #2 in Class A Cougars (13-0, 29-1) thus win the SEC-East over Spring Grove (10-2, 20-7) with one league match left to play (at Southland).

Lost in the commotion of the season were a pair of milestones by setter Sahara Morken.  She topped 3,000 career assists at the Class A Showcase and recently set the M-C assist record (3,201) topping Kenidi McCabe (3,094), whose shortened senior year was the COVID campaign.  Just a junior, Morken is a strong playoff run away from a third 1,000-assist season.  She already had 849 this campaign.
