Virgil Romaine Tweten, 86 of Rushford, died Thursday, August 31, 2017, at his home.
Virgil was born September 8, 1930, in Caledonia, to Rueben and Lillian (Reilly) Tweten and was raised in Yucatan. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1952-1954. On October 8, 1955, Virgil married Lorraine Eggert. They made their home in Hart and spent their lives farming. He was a member of the Rushford American Legion Post 94, the Antique Tractor Club and a faithful and active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart.
Virgil enjoyed snowmobiling and hunting in his younger years; playing cards, morning coffee at Stumpy’s, and was a diehard Minnesota Twins fan.
Virgil is survived by three children: Sandy (Frank) Gowin of Rushford, Steve (Marlene) Tweten of Minnesota City, and Sara Bowe (Scott Omtvedt) of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; eight grandchildren: Jason, Amber, Chad, Carey, Christopher, Katie, Dakota and Blayde; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Duane Tweten of Peterson; three sisters-in-law: Anita (Melvin) Brand of Rushford, Elnora (Arlan) Hildestad of Rochester, and Eileen Eggert of Rushford; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lorraine in 2011; son Richard, and sister-in-law Maxine Tweten.
Funeral service was held 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart, with the Reverend Hal Hintzman officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Rushford American Legion Post 94. Visitation took place 4-7 p.m., Monday at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service – Rushford and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service – Rushford assisted the family with arrangements.
