Verly Holty, 83, born in Mora, Minn., on June 20, 1937, died Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at her home in rural Mabel, Minn., after a six-month battle with bone and bladder cancer.
Married to Richard Holty for over 64 years. Mother to James (Elaine), Pamela (Brian), Joyce (Tony), and Ronald (Kimberly). Grandmother to Natalie, Nicholas (Nancy), Reid, Wesley, Lydia, Luke, Moriah (Aaron), Noah, Joshua, Haley, Taylor, Carter, Danika, Evan and Savannah. Honorary grandmother to Wyatt, Alper and Kyle.
She was a very active member of Calvary Evangelical Free Church, Spring Grove, Minn., and was the organist there for 62 years. She held several offices at the church as treasurer, deaconess, secretary. She sang tenor in many duets, trios, and quartets, including singing at 22 funerals and playing the organ for 13 weddings and 32 funerals.
Verly was active in her community as well, working with the Norwegian Foods at Syttende Mai for 26 years, serving as a past chairman of the American Red Cross Blood Mobile for Spring Grove, and as a member of the Quilter’s Guild.
She is preceded in death by her infant son Russell, parents Verdy and Geneva Burke and in-laws Alden and Lillian Holty, brothers Roger and Kenneth Burke; brothers-in-law Lorren, Keith, and Franklyn Holty, and Kenneth Thompson; sisters-in-law Ethel Burke, Lyla Thompson, and Genevieve Holty; nephews Jerry Burke and Dennis Holty; and niece Donna Buller.
She is survived by aforementioned husband, children and grandchildren, as well as sister Elaine Holty, sisters-in-law Wilma Burke, Peggy Holty, and Kathy (and Roger) Martin; and many nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services for Verly will be held Monday, May 17, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Evangelical Free Church, Spring Grove, Minn., with Pastor Kevin Barnhart will officiating.
Visitation will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. at the church.
Burial will take place in the Mabel Public Cemetery in Mabel, Minn.
Roble Funeral Home of Spring Grove is assisting the family with arrangements.
