Fillmore County Journal - Vera Gahnz Obituary

Vera E. Gahnz, 99, of Rushford died Saturday, June 10 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.  Vera was born July 12, 1917, on the family farm on the banks of Pine Creek in Fillmore County to John and Sarah (Knutson) Johnson.  She was baptized and confirmed at Arendahl Lutheran Church in rural Peterson.  Vera and Robert Gahnz were married March 5, 1960, at Arendahl Lutheran Church and farmed near Hart, until moving into Rushford in 1979.

Vera and Bob enjoyed traveling, including special trips to Hawaii.  For many years they would spend their winters in the warmer climates of Texas and Florida.  She enjoyed embroidering and word puzzles. She belonged to St. John’s Lutheran Church at Hart.

Survivors include her husband Robert, a son, James R. (Shar) Gahnz of Mazeppa; three grandchildren: Summer, Josh and Justine; and seven great-grandchildren.  Vera was preceded in death by her parents, a great-grandson, Carson Gahnz; and her four siblings:  Emer (Ella) Johnson, Theresa (Adolph) Boyum, Sidney (Phyllis) Johnson and Charrie (Stanley) Sather.

Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 14 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Hart, with the Reverend Hal Hintzmann officiating.  Burial followed in Brand Cemetery at Hart.  Family and friends called at the church from 11 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday.  Hoff Funeral Service of Rushford assisted the family with arrangements.  Please share a memory of Vera at her online guestbook and view her video tribute when it becomes available at www.hofffuneral.com.

Memorials are suggested to Winona Health Hospice Services, Good Shepherd Lutheran Home or St John’s Lutheran Church at Hart.
